    AoA dropping the ball?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The US didn't get the C6 avant in 4.2, allroad, or S6 trim. It appears the RS6 avant won't make it to our shores either. Now we won't be getting the B8 avant in 3.2 or S4 trim.

The only avants left for US buyers appear to be base models. Why is AoA dropping all the good avants?

Innovative, high performance, all wheel drive wagons are a part of Audi DNA. The company has already invested in the design and production of these vehicles for Europe, where they sell very well. Historically wagons are not as popular in the US, but I suspect that is going to change as we being rehab from SUVs. It seems like AoA is jumping ship just as the segment starts to pick up.

I agree.. I don't think the higher model Avants would sell as well in the US. It's unfortunate.. but most of our population thinks "wagons" are for soccer Mom's.

Yeah, my wife made fun of me for getting a wagon. I said, "hey, it's got a V8." I've always been a "wagon" fan...

    Re: AoA dropping the ball?

They're not even bringing the C6 RS6 sedan to the US. Audi is only going to bring cars that they are sure there is a market for. Sure we as enthusiasts love Avants but overall the US does not. They sold a very small amount of S4 Avants over the last couple of years. Plus they are wanting to sell more Q5's.

Selling more Q5's...heard that before. I have to say that they're competing against a lot more folks with the Q5.

    S4 Avant = no competition.

AoA recent choice to not bring in a manual A4 Avant is one of the main reason's I'll be keeping my B5 Avant for a long time. I could use the extra space of a B8 Avant, just not with an automatic trans.

    Re: AoA dropping the ball?

We didn't get the C6 allroad because it [supposedly] would have cut into Q7 sales. I really wanted one to replace my '02. I would have settled for the C6 4.2 avant. Even at $80k+, the new S6 avant would have drawn my attention. But we don't get any of those cars. So I ended up in an '07 S4 avant... which I enjoy but it certainly wasn't first on my list.

For my next car, it appears the S4 avant won't even be an option. That means I'll need to settle for a base model A4 avant, or give up on Audi wagons completely. I guess AoA thinks I'll stick with the brand and settle for an SUV. But they don't seem to realize the Q7 is too damned big, and the Q5 doesn't offer the performance available from other manufacturers. Unless we get a performance Q5 variant, I'm afraid I will be looking elsewhere...

Saw a b8 avant today. The first time I saw it I absolutely hated it. But i was biased seeing as how I was comparing it to my B6. Its just there is SO much bimmer influence on the damn car it makes me feel so distant from my expensive rings on my keychain!

I'm thinking my '02 S4 Avant may be going up in value. And with only 45K miles it is almost new.

I would guess if you have the money to buy an RS6 then you can probably afford to have one imported...

What about the rest of us, though? An S4 Avant - no problem, I can buy that...but they have to bring it over!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be released a year or two after the sedan (like the cabrio will). Anthony brought up earlier (or in another thread) that the B5 was this way - the S4 sedan came out a year or two before the Avant). A cabrio S4 didn't come until the B6.
