How do you remove the radio?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought some keys from Wally World and stuck it in the slots (curved side facing in towards the radio). When I pull on the keys, they simply come out without the radio moving. Could it be that the keys were junk? I bought a set of the official ones and waiting for those to come in and try again. Any ideas?

I have 4 of these - I use the longest one. The notches face into the radio - it will click into place.

Do you have to pull all 4 simultaneously? If so, how do you guys do that? It is fairly tough for me to get my hands on all four keys and yank at once with equal pressure to all 4 keys.

    I have four arms.

No - once you put each key in properly, the latches will be released. Then, you can simply pull on the top keys, the bottom keys or any other place. The keys just depress the spring loaded latches at each corner.

See, Tried that that the keys I bought from Wally World to no avail. I hope the "official" ones will work better.

Re: How do you remove the radio?

you should hear a click when the key is inserted all the way.

It sounds like your keys aren't long enough - they are sliding in and not catching anything, thus they slide right back out.

Yes, it would click and then when I pulled it would have a little resistance...pulled a little harder and out it goes!

They are a pain in the ass, be careful not to cut yourself when pulling on the keys.

I noticed that too, these things can sliced your fingers up pretty badly if you are not paying attention.

if you can't pull the radio out by pulling on the keys, then removing the glove box will allow you access to the to back of the head unit and you'll be able to push it out.

maybe you're just a weak sissy?

Kidding. If you were local I would drive a set over - I have several.

You're getting 4 clicks and some of them are still sliding back out?

Re: How do you remove the radio?

aww the 1st mod i ever did
this was a bitch for me too, till i realized that the notches on the keys need to face 'in' towards the radio.
    use these: http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_s...ND_42_002.html

when each one is pushed all the way in, they will click to engage.

and trust me, they are locked in there till the damn radio comes out. i needed two screwdrivers to hold the tabs down while pulling the keys back out.

by pulling towards your windows on the keys, then out towards you, it should come out with some wiggling. use the tape player if you have to. thing weighs a ton so it might take some force to budge it...
