Help. Car is in the shop now and they cant figure out what is wrong..

Ok, Heres the run down of whats going on...

I have 23k miles on the car right now. Its an auto tip. I was feeling some weird hesitation and serious vibrations while idle or in low gear. The Oil min light came on.. so I figured I would look and check the oil just to make sure. It was very low, but also the dip stick showed a little sludge... i didnt think synthetic oil did that.. anyway, I have a quart of Castrol synthetic exactly what the car suggested. I've used this same oil befor to top off no problems at all. Anyway, the Oil min light turned off.. about 2 days after I get a check engine light. The car is still really hesitant and I am feeling alot of un-natural shift shock. I figued maybe this will go away 4 cyl always has a lot of vibrations. I also noticed a much deeper exhaust tone... not sure what thats about.. but i kinda liked it.

So I was on the way up to the Audi GTG meeting in Danvers Ma. While at the meet I dropped off my car to get looked at. So they tell me no problem, there are a few recalled parts they have to replace like some kind of fuel hose and a sensor. He said it would be done that day and that should correct the check engine light, and that they would also do the 25k service since it was so close to it anyway.

Long story short, car wasnt ready. They gave me a loaner.. freakin camry cuz i am not 25...(24 btw) owell free car is a free car...and the girl at the rental was smokin... so i didnt budge. They called me yesturday and was like we couldnt figure out what is going on, was/is your car chipped... i said no, because its not ... yet he said he was going to be looking into the issue again today hopefully the car will be straight for wed or thursday. But the computer isnt helping us out at all.

Any of you guys have an idea of what wrong? I have a few minor mods like xenon retrofit and rns-e.. also a few vag mods e-code , seatbelt delete.. would any of this cause problems ?

    TIA..

    -Rob

You vag mods would not not cause the problem. Also, it has been reported over and over again that the Tip transmission can have some pretty serious vibrations when at idle. Along with that, everyone has said that the dealers say it's normal.

Ask the dealer what the code for the CEL was. Also, as long as you have a free rental and the dealership is taking care of it all I would be fairly satisfied. Good luck.

2nd to this - I also have an auto tip, and the thing rumbles/vibrates so much it makes parts of my interior rattle (especially in reverse).

Now as far as the sludgy oil goes, I'm not sure what to tell you. Are you aware you're supposed to check your oil VERY often cuz our cars are oil burners? It's a good idea to top off a B7's oil every 1,000 - 1,500 miles, because while the oil light might not come on, having lower-than-optimal oil levels over a long period of time can cause more corrosion. You could try getting a flush of your system done - a lot of oil change places, and maybe even the Audi dealer, will do this. My old car (nissan maxima) was shifting rough, and after I got a transmission flush (like $80), it was smooth as butta.

Like cramer said, as long as you have a free loaner, I wouldn't worry too much cuz your car is well within warranty coverage. I will sympathize, cuz a Camry must suck compared to an A4.

Oh, and also, headlight mods generally don't affect engine performance/reliability .

No i completely understand the vibrations however, these vibrations almost felt like the engine was struggling to stay on. Very weird.

I try to check my oil as often as i can about once a month id say. Thats pretty sad that we should top off our oil every 1000 or 1500 miles. While its not a problem for me its just doesnt make sense.. according to audi you should get your oil changed every what 7500k ... so i am going to drop 20 bucks on oil every 1000 miles then drop 100 bucks for an oil and filter change... doesnt make sense to me.

Wow what luck, just heard back... issue was the "CR air valve" was cracked.. I might have misheard, he def didnt say diverter valve , I tried doing a search on the part and came up with nothing.. when i pick up the car I will double check what the part that they replaced was. Non the less a valve was cracked and that caused the check engine light...

    wrong... it's:

    5k is free oil change

every 10k from there is free oil change.

45k is your last free oil change.

Try to ask them to upgrade your software as I have a manual transmission and it was sort of doing what you mentioned and after their software upgrade it fixed it. Suggestion i guess
