    Ballasts, bulbs.

If your car came with halogens, you would have to buy housings for xenons.

    "College budget"
    I feel you on that!

TIP: Stay away from those cheap aftermarket kits.....most are made in China :(
ballast often are faulty, and flickers on and off, and soon will totally die.
Stay away from 8000K and above temp. Xenon bulbs.

first off, Halogen housing has a H7 fitting.
so the first thing you need are the adapters for the H7
    1. H7 adapters = $8.00 - $15.00 shop around!
    2. EBAY!!!!! you can find OEM products anywhere from $80-$150 shipped for a pair of Ballast, and Xenon bulbs.

Im using Koito Toyota super slim ballast, with Phillips 43K bulb that I bought for $135
had it for 3 years now. not a single problem.
my friend went with an aftermarket kit.......he cant say the kit hasnt had a problem.
ballast flickers! hahaha I warned him! he took a gamble and lost :)

And if your wondering about the difference between D2S, bulbs, and D2R bulbs....there is no difference!
D2R just has this film shield on the bulb. Scrape the sheild off with a razor, and you have yourself a D2S bulb.

I would say more people have good results with cheap aftermarket kits from China than don't. It's just a few people that end up with faulty bulbs or ballasts that complain and make it sound like they are worse than they really are. But yes, it's a risk you take and if they are faulty, good luck getting money back, it won't happen. www.vvme.com

Also, you can go 8000K or higher if you want but get ready to be flamed on these forums for being "too ricey" and unsafe for other drivers on the road.

Re: How much are stock used hid ballasts and bulbs?

Why would i buy a 55w kit and go with a 8000K + bulb? Thats kinda common sense and would defeat the purpose of getting the 55w kit....

    Ok let me rephrase this.

I have stock hid's and want to go with a 55w kit. What i need to know is how much i can sell my used set for.

I'v done my research and the best kit i have found so far is from ddm which is owned by apexcone (or other way around, cant remember)

The first ones with the slim ballast: http://www.ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html

Safe to say i can sell my used ones for $100?

i apologize, when the OP asked for used stock, i assumed he was asking for OEM used.

i understand that there are cheaper kits out there, but i only meant to give the information he asked for. i'm happy with the kit, but i'm also one of those guys that loves OEM, so i have issues.

    was just trying to help.

Same here. The title gave me the impression that the OP was asking for factory OEM ballasts/bulbs, which led me to post links to hidconcept.com for Valeo ballasts and to Jens' FS thread for Osram D1S bulbs.
