Exhaust Install Price Quote....?

I have recently purchased a bolt on Magnaflow 16600 Cat-Back exhaust. I have received install quotes from $82.50/1 hr to $270.00/3hrs.

What is a reasonable install quote? Is this something I can install myself with a couple of jack stands?

I paid an hour and a half labor to have my exhaust and sway bars installed at $90/hr. 3 hours is a bit on the high side!

You could do it your self, or about an hour of shop time I would think since you are breaking at the down pipe connection and not the CAT.

that system is extremely easy to install...you should do it yourself...why not drive on up to boston and we'll put ours on together

just do it at home....all u need is 16mm wrench and some extra tools..with lots of WD40

Go to your local muffler shop. Shouldn't be more than $150, weld instead of clamping too...

Hard to screw up an exhaust install (wouldn't trust one of these shops to do engine work).

i doubt u'll be able to loosen the old rusted bolts without a air compressor and a torch...theres no way you'll loosen them by hand you'll strip em

not if you plan on ever replacing your clutch, or servicing ANY part of your drivetrain....

it is hard to screw up an exhaust install, but welding all your joints instead of clamping some is a pretty good way to... i do wish that more Audi/VW exhausts BOLTED together like a normal exhaust instead of being all sleaves and clamps though. seems kinda dumb to me for them not to.

IIRC, the 16600 system is downpipe back (even though it says catback...wasn't there a big thread about this recently?) so he would have to cut piping and weld the stock DP to the new midpipe. Hard to do at home unless he's got all the tools to do so.

Where are you attaching the new system to the old system?

yes...its a direct bolt on...just unbolt where the downpipe attaches to the rest of the exhaust...theres a factory clamp already there

and the weird part is the same car did both the video and the audio clip.

I was referring to the resonators back to the tail pipes. The clamps that were provided on my APR exhaust did not hold tight and was the cause of an exhaust leak. I had the shop weld those instead of clamping.

I believe you can still dissassemble and drop it from the downpipe to service whatever you need.

Maybe I didn't think that I would need to service anything since my car has under 23k miles and I can still access just about everything.

Does anyone have a AWE Catback Exhaust, or has heard one in person. They have a few post online that sound pretty good, but I was wondering if anyone knows about them.
