shouldn't do just springs esp on stock suspension. do a search under my name alone and see why.

i'm on the stock too. i say coilovers though. back when i was gonna drop my civic i went through the same dilema. after a short while, you will need to replace your shocks. just get the shocks/spring setup w/ the coilovers already and be done with it. it will be worth the time and extra labor needed to have to replace everything later.

Re: Springs or Coil Over can decide

coils since you prob on non sport and even if you were..springs "require" new shocks to accommodate the additional stress. Basically, spring will run you 250ish then you will need new shocks 400-500..comes out to 750 roughly and a set of coils are 1000.

The cheaper route is springs/shocks, but looking in the long run you might not be happy with how the drop is, maybe to high or too low and with this set up you will not be able to adjust your ride height. On the contrary, using coils will give you a way to adjustable your ride height/comfort you might want for the long run.

Do a check search and you will find many threads dedicated too suspension and what people think.

if u have OEM sport suspension and don't race/track a lot, I think springs is enough for u..and cheaper.

Re: Springs or Coil Over can decide

if you have money, go with coilover without a dought you wont regret it.
if you have money issues, go with springs, H&R makes a nice spring with a great drop, i had those before my coilovers. Check out my pics for comparision.

Re: Springs or Coil Over can decide

Coilovers are your best bet. You control the ride height and, more importantly, you don't give up the decent ride quality unless you pick a set-up for track use. The Stasis Streetsports and the Vogtlands have great reputations and are priced about the same (~$1100+installation). From my research, when adjusted just right, the Vogtlands are the way I would go if dropping the ride height for street use.

If the opportunity to buy my KWs for such a good price would have not presented to me I would have bought a set of Vogtland COs, almost all A4 owners I know have them and they ride is really good and sporty without being too harsh. I used to have their lowering springs on my stock sport suspension and loved them, but I wont do springs ever again ( Not because I didnt like them, but because of the inability to adjust ).

    I highly recommend Vogtland COs.

Don't install just springs..you are only asking for problems. At least get some bilstein shocks and throw them in too..

I highly suggest coilovers for the extra couple hundred bucks.. this way you can adjust the car to your liking..plus coilovers just ride better in my opinion.

Well, that's debatable, KWs are really stiff, I really don't mind but some people do.

2006 S-Line A4's have Bilstein shocks stock, I heard they switched to H&R shocks in 07+ though.

I would save for coilovers. Shock/spring just sucks unless it's the only possible option (i.e. if no one makes coilovers for your particular car).

You need to find a dealer. Here is one in suburban Chicago run by 2 auto techs who have a passion for performance cars. I believe they told a friend of mine their labor was $350 to install the CO kit (whatever you choose).

ANOTHER VOGTLAND USER HERE....................I LOVE THEM and so does ANYONE ELSE that see's and drives in my car. Not a rough ride what so ever. Trust me, I'm a guy who special orders custom spring rates and valving for my older JDM vehicles that were daily driven and track driven. I have had 3 H&R CUP KITS for different cars and TEIN'S with EDFC, and these Vogtlands are setup just right. The spring rate of choice and shock valving is really nice for our cars. I'm sure Stasis is great as well but I only know what I have and its VOGTLAND!
Currently in the market for an Avant or Allroad.

Is it a common practice to buy COs vice springs so that you can adjust the height according to season? i.e. low for the summer and higher (stock height) for the winter, so you can clear snow and ice without breaking your bumper and such? Excuse my ignorance in advance.
