Hey so, i'm thinkin about getting an e36 M3 in the next few months, and was wondering what you guys thought of them. I know quite a few people on these forums have or have had one, and i was curious to see what you thought about them, as far as mod's , reliability, quality etc.

90% of them are salvaged or have been in some sort of accident. Supposedly cursed from all the owners I've talked to about them lol
Great cars otherwise but be careful. I suggest looking into the 3.0 liter OBD1 e36's from 95 as well. It's hit or miss with these cars, you can get lucky, or you can get one with problems that need to be worked on.
Like I said, great cars but be careful when purchasing.

as far as mods there are endless amounts of them, and reliability is a must for anycar the M can be very reliable if it was maintained properly. If you are to get one look for one with low miles don't get one with 150k on it and mods as well, in most cases that spells problems. Take it to a bmw mechanic and get it checked out. You will love the car though with a few mods they are damn well faster than e46's. I'm looking into getting one they are so beautiful if done correct and they can have a phenominal exhaust note. Myvote is get one just be very particular about your selection!

go for it, they are alot of fun to drive, have a look at the M3 forums for problems, the main ones i know of are coil packs, rear strut mounts and vanos solenoid (causes a lack of power, takes forever to redline)

engine is bulletproof, watch out for half assed rebuilds and then its just age-related problems.

+1 stick is soo much better. i like my 95 m3 coupe soo much, that i actually prefer driving it over my 07 a4. bimmerforums has all the information you would ever need for the e36 bmws. if you like working and modding your own car, you will like this car as its really easy to work on.

heres my 95 m3 coupe and 98 m3 convertible. i looked at alot of m3s before buying these two and they both have under 90k miles. both m3s took me months to find as most of the ones i looked at werent properly maintained or had more miles than i wanted.

The m3 is better on so many different levels. If you search youll see that the e36 m3 won best handling car more then once and countless other wards it has a hand built engine, light weight rims, limited slip... You will feel more connected in a stock m3 then you ever could in prelude.

B.t.w - ive been in a supercharged prelude - it doesnt compare to an m3

see for yourself with a test drive, there is no comparison between that prelude and an M3.

    Re: e36 m3 opinions

my friend just got one. His is heavily modded, but it's such a fun fucking car. His is chipped, it's got a strong motor (rebuild at 140,000 or something), coilovers, and some other stuff. He's turning it into his HPDE event/track day car. I've driven it 4-5 times on the streets now and it does everything well!
