    '04 R32 ---> '05 S4?

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,
    I'm thinking about selling my '04 R32 with 65k miles and going with a CPO 2006 S4. What should I expect as far being able to maintain the car? I know that gas mileage sucks on both cars. What about performance, will i see some more power?

    Thanks

    I"ve never driven an R32, but I've heard the 3.2 doesn't have the best top end. My car feels lighter and very alive above 5500 rpms.

    ive driven a 08 gti with the 2.0T, the car is pretty quick. couldnt go crazy bc it was a dealer car, but it was sporty for a vw. still wouldnt trade my b5 s4 for it tho.

    as for performance, v8>3.2>2.0t

    I was in the same shoes as you 3 years ago. I had purchased an 04 Black Magic Pearl R32 brand new from the dealership. The car was too much of a boyhood racer and without FI was very underpowered. The S4 essentially gives you the same characteristics but with way more power and people take you seriously in this car. So I say go for it. Its been almost 3 years and I still don't feel a bit regretful with my choice

    Re: '04 R32 ---> '05 S4?

    I had the 24 hour test drive with the R32...definitely a fun car but as stated earlier it is not in the Audi stature league. I know you are not concerned with this so on to performance.

    The S4 I felt definitely out performed the R32 hands down. The suspension was about the same (to me at least ) power wise the S will do it for you.

    As for the fuel. The S if driven properly is not as thirsty as you would think. I am constantly in the mid 20's with my MPG.

    Maintenance wise. There are always the little bugs but no more than what you would see on the R32

    Re: '04 R32 ---> '05 S4?

    Maintenance wise you should not have a problem. I just reached 40k on my 06 and never had one problem on the car knock on wood. I owned an 04 R32 and you are making a better choice. Quattro is so much better in the Audis vs the 4motion in the VW. The R32 is to much front wheel bias. Stock R32 at best does 5.8 0-60mph. S4 does 5.3 or lower so it deff is faster. nicer interior.

    Anybody know of any good deals at the moment on '05 - '07 S4'S? I'm looking only to spend max $35,000 max on one with CPO.

    You should easily be able to find a CPO B7, most likely 05.5 or 06, for that price if not a few G's less.

    I think you will miss the handling of the R32 if you drive on twisty roads much. Agreed about the top end power, that's why I fitted a supercharger to it last year. Other than that I'm sure you'll like the S4 more, or an RS4 even better

    Re: '04 R32 ---> '05 S4?

    The R32 I had with H&R coils and sways did WAYYYYYY better in cornerin than the S4 with KWV3 and h-sport sways. Steering is way less precise due to the heavy nose on the S4. If you are a handling guy, stick with the R32, power + okay handling = S4

    That's because as is the case with the TT Quattros the R32 is primarily a FWD car. Both utilize a Haldex AWD setup. The electronic center differential doesn't bias towards the rear until it senses slippage at the front wheels. That's why you can get some wheelspin up front with a R32 or a TT Quattro.

    Re: '04 R32 ---> '05 S4?

    i just made that transition about two months ago. i totaled my t-red r32 and needed a replacement. i bought an '05 B6 S4 and couldn't be happier with my decision. the extra 100hp really makes a difference in acceleration. i also like the quattro system a bit better than the haldex system. it's not overly obvious, but there is less wheelspin with the quattro system. i haven't had a chance to get coilovers for it yet, so i can't really comment on the suspension (i had pss9's on the r32 by week 2 of ownership and can't remember the stock feel).
    the biggest difference for me is the more mature feel of the car. i loved my r32, but sometimes i felt like it was a little immature for me (i'm over 30).

    What a great point. I worked hard for my money and position in life. I feel the S kinda lets people know that when I show up some where.

    The car says serious about the things in your life, your job, taste , values and performance. IMHO a vet just says you need attention

    Power? Lets see.... 340hp verse 250hp? The S4 will walk all over a R32 at any speed.

    Did this exact thing a few months ago too. Traded in the R32 for a B6 S4. Love the S4, but I do miss the handling of the R32. I had Revo, cams, intake, exhaust and it was faster than a stock S4. And, even if an S4 could keep up in a straight line, as soon as you hit the twisties, the R32 would walk away.
    I miss how light and quick that car felt. Handled incredible...
