    Accelerator stuck

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This morning I turned left on a quiet street, and stepped on the accelerator, but as RPM's went up, I slipped the shifter back into "D" and suddenly realized that I "lost" the accelerator pedal. Almost felt like it got sucked to the floor and pulled away from my shoe.

Within the next 10-15 or so seconds, the car continued accelerating as I first stepped on the brakes, but backed off as the engine was fighting the brakes, (and I don't care much for the feel of the stock brakes, so I was thinking it would not hold). I tried tapping the accelerator, but it would not come back up. The road ahead of me was clear, so I stuck my shoe on the side of the acc pedal and lifted it up, which worked. Probably got up to 50 or 60 by that time.

I stopped, played with the acc pedal a bit and with all seeming well again, I went along my way. But what the hell happened? Not sure if the problem is mechanical, or perhaps something electronic causing the cruise or TB to accelerate. Cruise control was off though.

Though I was calm thoughout the process, it was scary. Anyone here experienced this before? I know about Audi's history of unintended acceleration in the 80's, but this is a totally different car/engine/etc. I need to check if there are any codes etc.

    Cheers,
    -Neil.

    Re: Accelerator stuck

I've heard of that happening to a couple of people. Turned out it was their floormat that was pushing the pedal down. Check to make sure yours is fastened.

    Re: Accelerator stuck

Next time that happens, throw the car in neutral. Dont kill your brake pads. To get it fixed I would go to the dealership and ask about it. Also make sure theres nothing down there that gets stuck.

That happened to me once when I was reversing. I went into neutral, turned the car off, pulled the accelerator up and it's never happened again.

    Re: Accelerator stuck

It happened to a friend of mine in a B7... His problem was electronics since his accelerator had movement as normal but the car was WOT! Almost wrecked his car but was able to get the under control. Dealer told him that they had no clue on what had happened or how to fix it since the car had no signs of any problem. So a week later he trade the car in for an SUV. He studied in Purdue University, so his dealer was somewhere near...
