Does anyone out their have a Boost Machine on a 01 A4? I have read before about them going into limp mode but I have never had my car in limp mode before. I installed the Boost Machine to stop my spike and give me a steady build of boost, and my car goes into limp mode. Man limp mode sucks. I have adjusted both onset and boost and can't find a happy medium. It sucks trying to adjust and then go limp and have to disconnect the battery every time to reset. I thought this was going to be a little bit easier to adjust. I ordered some diodes so I can do the 4.7v diode on the MAP and hopefully that will work. I was just wondering if anyone was using this on a 01 and new a happy medium setting.

    Re: Boost Machine users

Are you going into limp because you are running too much boost, because the diode mod is only going to help with that but not help if you are going into limp because there is a boost deviation issue while the turbo is building boost.

BTW does your car come out of limp by just turning the key on/off?

    Re: Boost Machine users

I have only turned the boost up to where they said to sart, with 3 to 3 1/3 turns. The boost on my gauge has not gone over 17.5 psi but it seems like it comes on too quick so I guess it puts it into limp mode. I have been messing with the onset to get it where it would be stable but it's hard to find a steady setting. With just my chip I would spike like 22 and then taper off and it would never put my car into limp. I am just trying to set it so i get a good build up and stay at 18psi with out spiking and then dropping off.

Mike what is a solid build up boost through each gear? I should see the strongest boost in 3rd gear at about 4000RPM correct? Tell me if I'm wrong, I am just trying to figure this out.

The other question, no I have to disconnect my battery in order for it to come out of limp mode I can't just turn the key off and then on.

Is their a reason for that, is it like a soft and hard limp mode?

That would be a hard limp, soft limp would reset when you turn the key off and then back on.

Have you logged the car to see what the map sensor is reading when this happens?

    Re: Boost Machine users

I use and have used a boost machine in my car for several thousand miles (about 15k) and I love it. Never hit limp mode though because I set the boost accordingly. The way to start using the boost machine is to turn the boost knob all the way off so you are purely running on the N75 then dial it out until you hit the specified boost you should be running. I personally used a vag-com because I wanted to make sure I didn't have a boost leak that I was covering up by turning up the boost (which may be your case).

Anyway... do a boost leak test, then start it at the lowest setting and go up from there.

    Re: Boost Machine users

I thought it could be the same thing so earlier today I did a boost leak test and I had nothing. I just recently with in the past 2 months, replaced all vacuum and boost lines along with valve cover gasket, and fuel injector o-rings...both of them. Did you just adjust the boost first and leave the onset off? About how many turns did you go with the boost and where did you leave the onset. You have a 01 so help me out brother. I have the boost set at about 3 to 3 1/4 turns from the off position. I have my onset at about 1 3/4 turns from the off position. I have not gone into limp mode today but I get a on and off fealing from second to third gear and I max boost out at 15.5 psi.

Set at about 6 turns for boost and about 2.5 ~ 3 for Onset which got me to about ~22 psi. I got there slowly though. Quarter turn by quarter turn.

    Re: Boost Machine users

Thanks, I dialed it in again and the boost seems to come on smooth and steady except in 2nd gear. Going from 2nd and getting the RPM's up to go to 3rd it surges and the boost fades in and out. Any thoughts?

    Re: Boost Machine users

I have the N75 "H" valve in which is only about 6 months old, maybe I should try and put the stock one in. I drove it for a while today and I didn't notice the surging as much but it is still there. I also stomped on it to get on the 5 today and it felt like I went into soft limp...every time I stepped on it while on the high way I could only boost about 5psi. I* got off the 5 and slowed down and then when I gunned it again later it was back to normal, weird. I like the way brings my boost on steady and holds but it isn't consistant.

    Re: Boost Machine users

Can you log block 115 to see what your actual versus spec boost levels are? Sounds like you are deviating too far from the spec boost and you are limping.

    Re: Boost Machine users

My buddy has a VAG, but I have know way of doing it now. It is just weird because I drive and the boost comes on hard and the car pulls pretty hard and it will sit at about 10 psi through 1st 2nd and then jump some into third. I have a VEI digital boost gauge and when I hit the button to see what my boost spiked at and it always at 14.5 or 15 psi and when I watch the boost it looks like it constant at about 10 psi. I can raise the boost up some but it usually comes on too strong and puts me into limp.
