    Just installed S-Line e-code/bi-xenons pics

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I got these from Jens and I got the rare S-Line e-codes which come with CC OEM. I also added in Xenonmatch Hoen fogs. Here are some quick and dirty photos-I'll get some nicer ones soon.

I VAG-ed the lights but my highbeams don't work. I swear I connected the wires correctly, am I missing something? I tried 01021, 01023 and 01031 (which works better since I don't have DRL) but none made my highbeams work (bi-xenons) One thing, when i ran the wire to the ecu plug, I wasn't sure which wire went into which slot. So if I wired them crossed, would that prevent the hi-beams from working?

    Normal view of lights off

just the xenons on (before I VAG-ed the parking lights off)

    xenons and xenonmatch fogs

It's hard to take pictures of the xenons, they are so bright and I have a simple camera. I'll get some pics later of the non parking light look. Now I just need some LED citylights.

I just drove the car, and I get the 'service!' display. Did the VAG-ing trigger that and what can I do to fix that?

Hey i recently switched my headlights to xenons from Jens as well.
I have the same problem that after I vagged the car to not use the ambers the brights will not work, I hope someone can come thru with an answer, i hate not having them work 100%.

bi-xenon high beam operation is different than regular halogens

Confirming you have bi-xenons right. High beam for bi-xenon means the shutter inside the projector housing moves to change the light pattern. No other light bulb comes on. Shine the lights against a wall - on low beam you will see a defined cutoff; on high beam that sharp cutoff will disappear.

For halogen housings, the inner pair of lights comes on when high beam is activated. For bi-xenons that inner pair of reflectors now provides the DRL and city light functions. If you look at the bulbs you will see they are different than the halogen H7's you would have had before.

    Trust this helps.

Yeah I know what BiXenons are but, when i pull the level for brights nothing changes in light. The beam is consistent always. if i only have the city lights on and i use the brights then the xenon comes on thats the only time.

01031 looks like a good code provided you've got auto lights:

Yes, those are the instructions I followed. However, my wires were not marked as noted in those instructions so I guessed which went into those two slots 21 and 22. I just switched the wires and no change.

The post above mentioning a wrench key and other steps has me intrigued. Any other suggestions?

Also, how can I vag the lights so the xenon ONLY come on as headlights? I want them on but I don't want the brake lights on.

While sitting in the car look at your instrument cluster ( speedodometer, gas guage) you should see a button with the wrench symbol on it, then you can follow the rest of the directions. ^^^^

Ahhhhh, haha. Ok. Well, I had just gone out 5 minutes ago to see what lights worked, hit the wrench button while the car was on, it cycled through and ended on OK. So, the error is gone!

    Still don't have hi-beams :(

Well, the order shouldn't really matter, provided that you put them on the correct side of the connector. These are the two wires that supply the power to the headlights to flip open the high beam shutters and the high beams turn on together. What I would do is test the voltage applied to those wires to see if it changes when you flip the high beam switch and go from there. Also, you can post a picture of the connector you used and mark the location the wire were plugged into.

The S-Lines come CC from the factory. So I don't have to bake them and screw something up :)

I flipped the wires and that didn't affect anything. I can do a volt test and see what i can find out. I'll take a pic of the plug, but from the left, it was the first 2 open slots (of three open total). Following 17, 18, 19, etc the first two slots were 21 and 22 which according to the walkthrough was the ones I wanted.

Damn, error code is back. AND now my gas gauge is messed up. I just topped off the tank and the analog gauge says less than half a tank and the low gas indicator is on the dash which doesn't match up with anything.

I didn't know vag-ing the lights would mess with my gas indicator and gauge? So no hi-beams, service code, faulty low gas indicator, inaccurate analog gauge.

Re: Just installed S-Line e-code/bi-xenons pics

K, I tried just about every code. 01023 (amber, halogen came on as DRL, no hi-beam) 01033 (amber, no hi-beam) 01021 (amber, halogen came on as DRL, no hi-beam), 00033 (wipers came on when I did the high beams which did not work). With all of those codes, when I'd hit hi-beams, the xenons seemed to fade slightly in brightness and there was a slight audible hiss sound. Not sure what that means?

I went back to 01031 which was no amber, no DRL and still no hi-beams. I tried to check voltage with the plug unplugged which may have reflected the no power read? Does the plug need to be plugged in to register the power?

I also saw the gas error code-
    00438 fuel supply sensor2
010 open or short to plus

I clear the faults and nothing came back but I still have the issues. I hope the dealer won't get mad if the fault codes are cleared if I take it in? Since no fault code came back, does that mean the fuel sensor is OK?

(this is also posted in my thread, just looking for help)

I have a tester that tests just power, and I got none at either wire coming straight out of the plug-while connected-with engine on and hi-beam stalk engaged. Since I didn't have these from the factory is it confirmed that base models even have that wired to the plug? There are two fuses for automatic lights and there is no wiring to them. So I just wonder if I have the wiring for these?

Could I just run these to any hot? Or what can I do to get power to that plug?

It seems the left light 'clunks' and flashes for a brief second and then nothing. So it seems they aren't getting power or enough power to finish the shutter and power the hi-beam. Thoughts?

I did the retrofit myself from halogens, and that connector is definitely wired up. The two high beam wires are enable lines for relays in the lights that flip a shutter open in each light respectively to turn on your high beams.

Judging by your codes earlier and your report that high beams work momentarily, it sounds like you may have a short somewhere. The thing to do is cut the problem in half.

Disconnect the two high beam wires from the harness and measure the voltage applied to the terminals they would go into when you turn on and off the high beams at the stalk. Do you get a constant voltage on those lines?

If you do, the problem is upstream towards the lights. Make sure the wires going to the lights aren't cut or somehow shorted to the chassis or anything else.

If you don't get constant voltage there, the problem is with coding or worse, something fundamentally wrong with your vehicle's electronics.

I try your suggestions this weekend. So what voltage am I looking for-or is it just for a constant number?

I did somehow affect my gas readings/fuel sensor so I hope I didn't mess up anything else.

Without testing my own I can't say for sure, but most likely it would be 12v when on.

Re: Just installed S-Line e-code/bi-xenons pics

i could be wrong, but i thought the cleared out orange blinker came standard on all the e-codes. that along with a slightly nicer beam pattern is what makes e-codes, e-codes. if you have to cc them yourself, there's no difference in getting the e-codes from your normal us-spec headlights.

in any case, nice lights! i hope you get all that stuff sorted out soon!

That blows. I will be taking my car in soon to deal with my fuel sensor issue, I hope they don't give me crap.

As I understand it, normal e-codes do not come CC, only the e-code S-Lines do.

For Jens, just look in the lighting classified section, he has a few posts for lights he's selling/sold. You can pm him to ask that you be added to his notify list for whenever he gets a new set available. Mine were $950 for everything. Non S-Line (not CC'd) are usually around $800.

Re: Just installed S-Line e-code/bi-xenons pics

Nope, not 100%. I never got the hi-beams to work. It seems like the driver side wants to work (when flashing the stalk) but it's a weak quick flash and the passenger side does nothing. So I wonder about a possible ground/volt issue on the passenger side preventing full power to open both lenses. That's the way it seems, like there's some juice to get it going but it doesn't have enough for the driver side and won't even make anything happen on the passenger side.

I wanted to play with the passenger side light, test the plug and all that, but I just haven't had the time.

LOL! Congrats on getting some e-codes, its something I really want to get done to my car. Especially having to drive home in the dark and rain, makes me realize just how crap the halogens are, even more so when my Maxima had xenons.

I am tempted to get xenons before bothering with anything like a chip.

Re: Just installed S-Line e-code/bi-xenons pics

Yes I did. He walked me through testing polarity on the driver side and it worked. I never got around to checking the passenger side. We checked the two wires correctly ran to the spots on the ecu plug. He ran out of ideas. So, I'm stuck trying to figure out what the issue it. I'm disappointed that I don't have hi-beams, but happy that I have single xenons I guess.
