I'm in the same boat. If you search through the first few pages you should see another thread about this topic. Most dealers in my area are getting around $1,700 for labor. Your independents are probably closer to $1,000 depending on their hourly rates. Apparently it's a 20 something hour job. Or at least that's what it pays to do it. Add in another $1,000 for parts if you replace the flywheel.

please stop spreading mis-information. Clutch job in a v8 s4 is not a 20something hour job, its more like 6-8 hours max. and i know this because that is what the general manager @ the dealership told me. other dealers will write more hours so that they can make more on the job.

and as far as parts, spec and southbend make clutch setups for our cars. although ive most recently heard that southbend can nolonger source the parts for the clutches, however they can modify a stock clutch for $250 that will essentially make it a stg 4 setup.

If you shop online you can find the stock clutch components for around $500 or less, and the flywheel doesnt have to be replaced, just resurfaced.

Re: labor cost to change clutch in 04 s4?

Just had it done at an independent shop. They charged me 10 hours labor at $65 per hour, but it was his first V8 S4 clutch job (thats $650 for the math challenged). I imagine next time it will be between 6-8 hrs labor as some others have reported.

After market stage III was under $1350 when everything was done. (650 labor, 400 oem clutch parts, 300 soutbend clutch parts upgrade + flywheel resurface).
