    Engine hood stuck closed

Ran out of washer fluid last night, went to top if off this morning, and I couldn't get the bonnet open. The latch in the cabin seems to be working as it pops the hood that first little bit. When I pull the mechanism by the rings on the grill it only seems to lift the hood another inch then it's getting caught on something. I spent about 10 minutes trying to get it to open but to no avail.

    Thoughts?

So it actually pops and then you can pull the lever in the front to release it while opening.. did you give it a little force while pulling on the lever?

happened to me, keep fighting with it open it and close it it should disengage, and then all u have to do is bend the latch forward a bit and it should work as it should.

Yes, it works exactly like you described and yes I gave it more and more force but still nothing. It's getting caught on something. I can barely open it enough to fit my hand under it, but all I can feel is the lever and not what it's caught on.

see when the latch gets bent backwards it catches onto the support and won't release after some fighting it should give in.

Kirk is right, the lever on the front is the safety latch if it pops from the interior hanlde the hard part is out of the way and your cable is fine. The lever swings forward when you pull up on the handle the sticks throught the grill, if the lever is slightly bent it will get caught, perhaps try pulling up on the hood first and then slowly pull the lever to see if it will unlatch all in one motion.

    Re: Engine hood stuck closed

Nope, still can't get this damn thing to release. I starting getting mad at it so I walked away before I did some damage. I was literally pulling hard enough on the mechanism that I thought I was going to break the grill.

This is easily the most frustrating thing to happen to my A4 yet.

    Re: Engine hood stuck closed

Did you try taking a look with a flashlight to see if you can see where it is catching and perhaps you can use a long screw driver or coat hanger to assist, it sounds like the secondary latch (one that you pull in the grill) is hanging up as frustrating as it is.

Dude just chill out. You will never get it solved with that attitude.

Like pondside said, take a breath and look and see what it is getting caught on. After looking for like 1 minute, laugh at yourself because of how frustrated you got over a simple problem, and then open the hood.

what i did is pull the lever that releases the hood in and out 10 times and pull on the lever hard and eventually it worked GL though.
