A Must Do Mod for all S4 owners....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Tired of shops crushing your pinch welds? Tired of crushing your pinch welds yourself. There is a better way. Put the jack pads from the RS4 on your S4's and be done with with it. I don't have the part numbers but here are some pictures:

you can thank me later. Enjoy!

Re: A Must Do Mod for all S4 owners....

These pads come stock on all RS4's. I'm not selling them, I'm just telling you guys to go and get them on your cars. It's the greatest feeling tossing a floor jack under these and just going at it without any worries.

What i can't believe is 140 views and only two replies. Wow, maybe i should have posted some noobie topic. Whatever the case is, it's out here for you guys to take advantage of. Whoever does it, post back on this thread. TIA!

so, we're left to assume only the dealer can get them? they can't cost too much anyway I assume. I'll be asking parts dept about them tomorrow. I just hope no knuckleheads have f'd up the welds over the last week with it being at the hitch shop. they seem like the best in the area doing high end cars actually but now i'm worried - the car is new!

My m3 had these also, they also had a specific jack that fit into the pads that came in the trunk of all bimmers except the m3 which had some stupid air pressure inflator instead of the spare and jack.

Very nice! This is actually a useful thread so far. Anybody done this, or can anyone confirm that these pads will bolt up nicely to a B6 S4?

I'll say it one more time. I didn't put these on the car. They come that way from the factory. What you are looking at is the underneath of an RS4 not an S4. It is a stock part on the RS4 and i think that reason that they put them on this car and not on the S4's is for track purposes. Pull into the pit and throw a floor jack under the car.

These are bolted to the car and are never removed.

Mystro, you can put jack pads on your floor jack, but what happens when you take your car to the dealer or some shop to have tires mounted. Ahhhh, now you see why you need these pads.

they aren't in the parts catalog for a B6 because there wasn't a B6 RS4. I'm sure that they will fit, and if not, then a little fabrication would probably work.

I'll try to get a better shot in the morning.

It's a thin strip of metal at the jack point which runs perpendicular to the jack point. (I don't even know why auto mfgs have these when they know they will get crushed...). Every time you jack up the car at the jack points these get more and more chewed up. Until one day they are a nasty mess...

In the 4th and 5th picture you can best see how the piece being discussed in the thread straddles the "pinch weld".

hi ant, hey have you ever lifted your B6 with the stock jack? I did once and it scratched the car and barely held it up. It was so dangerous that I never used it again. You should be the first one to do the install on the B6 since you have the facility and know how to make things work.

this is a standard design, while poor, that has the jack slotted to engage the seam protrusion. some designer may have even thought it a safety feature helping hold the jack in place. perfect alignment is paramount with all these small jacks though. off angle at all and the car will lean as it goes up.

That part doesn't even show up on the B6 diagram but it does show up on the B7. It is only listed for the RS4, though ("unknown" for the B7 S4). I don't doubt that it will fit right on any B7.

It's not clear to me what that nut threads on to. Is it part of the jack pad or part of the car? It would be great if it works for both B6 and B7. There are so few changes between those platforms.

There were similar parts that I installed on my MK IV Jetta. The jack pads were for the TT but they fit right onto Golfs and Jettas too. Unfortunately, they were only suitable for 4 point lifts since they were not on a stiff part of the chassis. These pads from the RS4 look like a much better design. I might just pull the trigger and see what happens.
