Tiptronic Clunky 2-1 Dowshift

Car is an '01 A4 2.8Q Tip. Mileage is 130K. Filter and fluid is new 500 miles ago, and there was no change in behavior after fluid change.

Transmission in general works well and shifts smoothly. The issue is a pronounced 'clunk' at the 2-1 downshift when coming to a stop.

Is this something I should be worrying about? I don't remember my '01 A6 2.7T Tip (I had it for 48K miles) doing this.

its a pretty common thing, my job is valet and i drive a lot of automatic cars and it bugs me so i use the tiptronic to my full advantage, even on nice nice cars its still usually clunky going from 2-1 if you dont do it at the right time.

2-1 downshift is clunky on a manual, if your going too fast. Really, you shouldn't need first unless your basically stopped. I never downshift into first unless I get under 5 mph or so

Like everyone said, its a normal thing. It happens every once in a while when I shift down to 1st at the wrong time according to the tip programming. I just try not to shift down to first unless I'm pretty much stopped.

Never ever. Let the tranny decide when it's safe for that. Downshifting in 4th-5th shouldnt be a problem as long as you aren't bouncing off the rev limiter.
But even in tip mode, on my 2000, when it downshifts automaticaly to first coming to a stop, it sort of lurches. I don't hear a clunk, but I feel a clunk if I don't time the stop properly. Too slow of a stop will cause this. If I come to a sort of quick stop, the 2-1 downshift is not noticeable.

Yes, I'm talking about the automatic mode (Selector lever in 'D' not Tip Mode) downshift to 1st when stopping.

So the consensus is "normal, don't worry about it"?
