i just did my fuel pump, and the stupid mechanic didnt change the fuel filter cause he thought the car doesnt come with one. (dont ask why i took the car there, i had to cause it was under warranty and the 1st time i have to go to one of their inspections centers, and i yelled at my account rep so i wont go there anymore, trust me)
Anyway, so called my mechanic and audi also and they say that you dont have to do it, cause they dont change them very often, so i wanna know what i should do

Re: How many of you have changed the fuel filter when you replaced your fuel pump?

It is a really good idea and I recommend replacing the fuel filter when replacing the fuel pump.

I just did even though my fuel filter only had 20k on it. I wanted to make sure my hardware was top notch so my tuner doesn't have to worry about anything but writing software.

You can replace your fuel filter yourself. It is fairly easy (a lot easier than B5). The filter runs around $40 US.

    ^^ x2.

Dealer changed my fuel pump, I put a new fuel filter anyway (at another garage, not the dealer), specially that I dont know when it was previously changed. Its only $50 bucks tax included and takes 30 minutes to install.

A lot of companies will void their warranty if the fuel strainer and filter are not changed with the pump so yeah definitely, like A4ringedONE8T, "It's cheap, change it!"

im worried about your mechanic... all cars have fuel filter.. does he think our cars dont have air filters either?

its dumb not to, you just stirred up a lot of sediment and it was probably part of the reason it failed

Exact reason why its highly recommended to replace the fuel filter when touching the fuel pump.

You can see the sediment in the pictures I took when doing mine (see fuel pump DIY). That was even after I removed a lot of the sediment from the basket. The remainder I couldn't get and felt it was 'ok'
