I need advice for my new 225

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I have yet to purchase a TT but I just sold my A4 to get a 01-03 225 TT. I plan to get a completely stock one with less than 100K miles.

When I purchase the car I want to INSTANTLY do these list of mods but I am unsure about the exact brands and products that I've selected. Advice/reviews please?

    Mods:

    Performance/Suspension:
    REVO Chip (260bhp/284torque)
    APR R1 DV
    Samco Hoses
Unsure about my intake but I'm thinking EVO MS.
Unsure about my coil overs but I'm debating H&R or Stasis (leaning towards Stasis)
Unsure about my exhaust but I'm thinking Borla. (I just want something very subtle and deep)
Some decent rims that wont ruin in Colorado. Thinking about ASA AR1's.

    Extras:
Probably going with full alpine set up for audio with 1 12" Type-R in a ported box.
Probably a boost gauge that goes in the vent.

Please give advice and links to the products that you would recommend over the ones I have.

    THANKS!!!

Re: I need advice for my new 225

Define "performance"- racing, street, ??? I track my TTQC and use Koni FSD/Eibach Pro kit, CPT adjustable lower control arms, and a StopTech Stage 2 brake kit.
Ditch the APR R1 honker- Forge or other better applications for the TT.
    Borla or BlueFlame exhaust.

Visit the AW TT Forums: pretty active, lots of good tech advice.

Look for a snow white B7 S4 Avant out of COloroda Springs when you're out. Good people. Goes by LWonka on several forums.
Intake- Modshack VTDA or TTDA: see www.modshack.info for more data.

The STaSIS setup is excellent, but unless you plan to do no street driving you'll need new teeth and rims afer a while. Save your money.

Re: I need advice for my new 225

it is not recommended to do mods right after you purchased a used car, especially these TT. Also look for 03 and up in the 225 version with 6spds; anything less is worthless and the 3.2 version isn't as fun (turbo vs. NA). The reason why i said don't do mod right away is because you're going to need those mod money to do "PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE" big items like the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, etc around that area will cost you a good chunk of money (mostly due to labor). ONce you drive the car for about 3-6 months, then add chip, exhaust and intake. this way you get to see what your car was like before and after. The stock DV should be fine for a while but if you insist on replacing it, I would do a piston (forge type) rather the diaphram. However A.W.E just created a new diaphram type DV and it looks promising. Also the price is competitive so consider that before you buy any. I have a forge 007 piston type and it's great. I only serviced it once and it performs flawlessly. As for suspension, I did not go coil nor want to lower my car. The reason is because I didn't want to deal with the camber issue and didn't want to turn my car into a snow plow. I live up north and there are plenty of snow during the winter as i'm sure you have your fair share of that as well. I did koni yellow adjustable all around with stock springs. this lowered my car 1/2" and allow me to play with the damper (in the front as the rears are a pain in the ass due to their locations). Rims and tires are personal choice and don't let people influence too much in it. I do suggest for summer get the Goodyear Eagle F1 because they're kick ass. For winter, go with some blizzak or whatever; i have 2 sets of rims, one winter one summer. This is getting long so PM me or email me. I wouldn't consider myself a PRO in this but i've done my fair share of research and owned the car for a while. i can help if you want. Also you're Viet aren't you , all more reasons for me to help a brother in need.

Re: I need advice for my new 225

    Thanks for the tip guys!
When I say performance I mean aggressive street. I do not race, drag, etc. but I do enjoy passing cars on the highway when I commute 50+ miles. Aside from that I drive very slowly.

About the exhaust, I have heard some things about this Blue Flame brand and I heard its great and cheaper than Borla. I will have to look into that.

For some reason I grew a lot of interest in the APR R1 DV because I saw one in another TT (180BHP platform/FWD) and I really enjoy hearing the way the DV sounds. Aren't all Forge ones silent?

Cruzad3r. I understand completely maintenance costs for Audi's and I am prepared for those upcoming/possible repairs/maintenance work. I do understand what you mean by getting used to the TT before I mod it so I can really know what differences I am making but I am impatient.

you want noise, then the APR R1 is a good choice. Also open up your intake and you'll get even more noise. also impatient with the TT is not a good idea as it can be costly. going back to the noise idea, blueflame will be quite so is milltek; borla will be a little bit louder but not that loud. if you want noise, you will need the neuspeed or custom made.

i also reply to your PM.

Re: I need advice for my new 225

Well for the noise for the DV I like some noise and the whistle of the intake is good. The exhaust is something I'm very unfamiliar with. For instance, I had a Magnaflow exhaust on my last A4 and it was way too loud for me. I just dont want the silent Audi TT exhaust.

I replied your PM too lol.

VTDA and a good Forge or Stratmoshpere DV are perfectly good, and the R1 has had excessive failures reported.

no they're not... especially your car ... but in general since he's looking to buy a TT, i simply said that 225 version will give him more playing ground. that's all

Re: I need advice for my new 225

I like my R1 for the reason that it is quiet as the stock one. I've had it in for over a year and no issues yet. I have one in my Avant as well and that car has over 10k on the clock since it was installed. No issues to report.

If you want sound then definitely this is NOT the DV for you.

Re: I need advice for my new 225

Well guys thanks for the info, but it seems like I will be buying my TT in the next few days. The contenders are:

    - All 225's and all stock and all very very clean

2003 Dark Grey (Black Interior) - 74K Miles asking price 18,000 (talked him down to 15,500) (also the timing belt hasn't been done)

2001 Black (Black Interior) - 59K Miles asking price 17,900 (have not discussed price but he already said he is highly flexible)

2001 Black (Black Interior) - 65K Miles asking price 14,500 (supposed to see the car today)

Re: I need advice for my new 225

Good luck! And keep a lookout for the snow white S4 Avant (B7) running out of the Springs area.

Good to hear your r1 is working Oso: the AW experience has been rife with bad juju about them.
