Does anyone have a write up/walk-through for a vag-com headlight adjustment?

Will there be a code thrown if the headlight motors are malfunctioning?

I am awaiting my Vag cable and one of the things I would like to do first, is try to figure out why my headlights don't self level all the time. One points straight up, the other straight down. I suspect that the motors may be going or the gears may be getting stuck...yada yada yada.

I want to try this first before I take it into the dealership.

    Any input is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    E

I would bet that either you need an adjustment, or one of the sensors is broken on the suspension. It could just be a motor gone too. Those are easy to replace. If they are out of whack, it does throw a ugly yellow light on the dash.

    What does the adjustment entail?

Is this done w/ a Vag? Or does the dealership have some high dollar copyrighted electronic scanner?

You are not referring to a manual adjustment, via the screws on top of the lights, are you?

you can adjust with the white screws and it means nothing to the ECU. It just returns them to wherever you calibrated it to. With VAG you can adjust the lights in pre set levels. I think stock is like 00020 and right now I'm running 00040. You can play with the adjustment in your car through VAG. Its kind of cool actually, but you have to be sure to calibrate it afterward.

The VAG adjustment gets you in the general area, and the screws let you fine tune it. I know the guide on doing it is somewhere in that link I provided.
