Angry Ah man...I can't get it up!

    hey guys,

so I just got out of work, and came to school....It's a beautiful day so I roll down my windows while cruising. I park at school and roll up my windows, but my passenger side window will not roll up. It just makes a grinding noise every time I press the window switch. It just grinds away...sounds horrible!

At the moment my car is parked with a window down....is there a way I can manually roll it up? What could possibly be wrong? My guess is my window regulator motor went out...how much do they run for at the dealership? Any help would be appreciated! (sorry i haven't done any searching bc class starts in a few and came to the lab to post this)

P.S. Does anyone have bad luck with their audis? Coming into school i get a a left brake light out warning...and my window wont roll up.... a coil pack just blew a couple of days ago...

You have to get a new motor. I think its broken - had that problem, once it was replaced no problems. About 150-250 depending on delearships

ah man...im praying it doesn't rain...anytime soon...i'd be so pissed

i went to the dealership right after class....asked for a quote...

    $310 for the regulator motor

    $600 for the install...

    does this sound right???!!!

is their a DIY??...cuz im not in the position to dish out so much money for the install...im still paying my credit card bills from my school tuition.

Re: Ah man...I can't get it up!

yea there's a diy i think i looked at a while back. you can probably find it by searching although it may have been from one of the other boards. The diy i read was how to fix the broken plastic piece that breaks off where it meets the steel cable, i know this isnt your exact problem but and shows you how to take off your door panels etc.

I did the diy but it only lasted a month before the epoxy/plastic came apart, and because of time I had to end up bringing it to the dealer for a painful bill. If I were to go back and do it again I definitely would have ordered the part online and done it myself, saving a few hundred dollars.

Re: Ah man...I can't get it up!

Here's a really good DIY. Looks like a bit of a pita but it might save you a lot of $$$. My front passenger window just went out also. Im debating whether to do it myself or take it in. Im just concerned that if i take it apart there is a chance that i wont put it back the exact same way. If it really costs 600 for the repair i might just go ahead and do it myslef. Anyways, i hope this helps:

Re: Ah man...I can't get it up!

this happened to me in June... It got stuck down when I went to lunch.. When i arrived back to work it wouldn't roll up!! I had this issue with the drivers window, and I avoided replacing it ( ran with it on the fritz for like 2-3months) finally the day after work when it was just no longer livable I took it in... Turns out it needed a new regulator and that cost me a whopping $650!!!

ALSO DUE NOTE: When the regulator/Motor dies, the window buttons are the next thing to go!! The audi ppl told me that and true enough it happened to my rear left window.. My front controls couldn't roll it up or down! Luckily Audi service ppl know me soo well (and I guess felt bad taking EVEN MORE money from me) they only charged me the part $100 and did the labor free! :)

But still the whole experiance cost me $750!

Its probably the regulator, not the motor. Fixed mine just yesterday.

Part cost $150 straight from the dealership.

I had to add a little bit of humor into my situation...I'd figure you guys would laugh at the title

    UPDATE:

So I came home around 10 last night, took apart the passenger door...was able to roll up my window manually...

haha...i don't have time or money the next few weeks to fix the regulator...so i took off my door panel...and till I'm free of my debts in a month i wont touch it...

I found the regulator for 100 bucks at http://www.genuinevwaudiparts.com/pa...&siteid=214407

    Part Number 8E0837462C

Re: Ah man...I can't get it up!

I had my regulator crap out a year ago and had it replaced under warranty. The symptoms this time seem to be the same (there is a crunching noise when the i try rolling the window up or down and when i tried to roll it up it stops sometimes and readjusts it to a slightly lower position). So the question is, how do i know whether its the window regulator or the motor? Im assuming its the regulator because it has the same symptoms as before.

Re: Ah man...I can't get it up!

Common. I had my driver side go about 1.5 yrs ago and now just got the pass side done under CPO warranty. Now I have an new regulator for the right side that I bought but never installed due to it being covered under warranty.
