    parts+labor=$541?

    just got my cam and crank shaft sensors replaced..the guy charged me $227 for parts and $278 for labor...does that sound right?

    I'm not real familiar with working on these cars yet, but that sounds pretty reasonable. ~$100+/hr, probably a couple hour job... and if these cams are only $227, sweet, lol

    you're in OC? who did the work? did it fix whatever the problem was?

    no sorry i live in nj.. idk y i put that.. but my car was bucking at like 50mph and having trouble getting into gear. so i brought it to a trans guy and he said it was all engine related.. so my mechanic said it was those 2 sensor throwing off my timing.. i just got it back today and i didnt get a chance to drive it yet

    Oh, it was just the sensors.. in that case, disregard my answer, as I have no clue. But the other guy asked a good question.. whether it fixed the problem or not is important in whether you got ripped off or not!

    i think the cam position sensor is around $90 if you were to order it online, but he probably upped the price a bit. together with the cam shaft sensor $227 probably sounds about right.

    $278 labor sounds somewhat steep unless he charges around $110/hr. if that's the case he still took a long time to do the repair, and probably just took the book time and charged you that.

    welcome to why we learn to LOVE working on our cars ;) labor + parts on an audi will kill you every time...even on the smallest of jobs.
