07 A3 H&R sport cup, Rims and tires

New guy here, I recently got a 2007 A3 with an H&R sport cup kit installed, I wanted to get a nice set of rims and tires for it but when I got 18in rims by 8.5in and general exclaims 225-40-18s I found that the rears rub the innner fender when I hit bumps, basically they rub the screw that holds the rear bumper to the rear fender.

My guess is that I have to go with 8 in or 7.5 in wide rims, does anyone have recomendations or can confirm what fits, I also need to get the tire size I should be using.

First of all, do you know what the offset is on the current 18x8.5" wheels that you have? Just trying to see if there's a way you can get those set of wheels to fit instead of buying new ones.

That screw that it is rubbing against should be able to be removed and your bumper should still be secured, if you want to try that.

What offset? Yea the screw can be removed and if it still rubs it is ok b/c the back the material is like carpet so after some rubbing it'll be gone and can hear it

the ones I got have a 45mm offset, I am told that to fit an 8.5in wide wheel I need a 50mm offset, is this true?

I would rather not remove the mounting screw if possible and I would also like to avoid damage to the innner fender liner.

    I am on 225/35/19 on 19" 8.5 et 45 and don't rub. I am lowered 2" on coilovers.

    LOL, be nice tp

vince954, yes that is basically true, if you got ET50 instead of ET45 on your 8.5" width wheels, you should be rub-free.

I am on 19x8" ET 44 and that basically sticks out the exact same as 8.5" width wheels with ET50. So your car is pushing the wheels out 5mm more than my car, which can make a difference depending on how aggressively you drive in corners and how low your car is to the ground.

If you want to keep the wheels, you could try to stretch 215 width tires instead of your 225. You will clearly see stretching, but it should be safe to run 215 tires on 8.5" wide wheels.

Or get new wheels in a skinner width (e.g. 8" instead of 8.5") or with a higher offset than ET45, like you mentioned.

i'll just not respond to these threads anymore caus i just get mad at people who cant handle minor rubbing for few miles.

    edit:

take out the screw, it wont do anything. bumper not gonna fall off.

if you really want no rubbing you should go 18x8 ET50 and find tires with least sidewall protection. this will give you extra room between fender and tire.
