    Exclamation GIAC X plus chip

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So today I decided to buy the GIAC X plus chip....the dealer is close to me and was able to do it right away.....

I like how it pulls a little earlier when comparing to stock....I do enjoy the extra power but it didnt put down that wow factor I was looking for, maybe I was expecting too much ?

But I am thinking I would like the revo chip better just based on what people say about their chips.....I am not trying to start a chip war, I am just curious what other people with the GIAC chip think of their performance gain...

Also odds are I wouldn't do any mods outside of a stage 2 setup at the most...

I've been in both. GIAC-x is smoother. Power is the same. Soon, AWE will be coming out with a fuel pump which will let you pull a little harder. Stick with GIAC.

When I got tuned with GIAC X they told me that it takes a couple days for the ecu a couple days to recognize the chip. The tuner told me that I should feel more power once I leave but I will experience the full power after about two days.

Agreed, stick with the GIAC and get the AWE pump, will be a sweet setup

GIAC FTW! lately a lot of people have been complaining about APR in terms of customer service, support, and their software being slightly flaky... although the majority people in this forum have APR... this being said I'd still go for whatever is closest to you... it will make it much for convenient....

unitronic, revo, giac, apr, mtm? did i miss anything...

    Re: GIAC X plus chip

everyone pretty much assumes the chip they have is the best. don't rely on any posts that say 'XXXX is the best', they're all very similar. give it time to adapt, after a few days you'll know what you've got. to some people a chip is breath taking, to others it's merely a nice gain, it all depends on what you are use to and consider 'fast'.

    Re: GIAC X plus chip

I notice a real difference after I ran through a tank of gas and refueled. GIAC and most of the softwares out there are good. I too when with GIAC b/c of deal location.

I like the fact that most BT setups use GIAC, but I hope it just needs a break in period because its a gain but I feel it just kicks in the boost about 1800 rpms earlier... I dont think id go APR just because of all the recent postings of issues. I like 2nd and 3rd and how they pull I just worried its alot for a nice boost. The shifting is smooth and feels the same.Maybe I just need a boost gauge to see the difference and learn the chip better. I got it done at the Porsche dealership so I think they know their stuff...the guy said he used own a A4 and worked with AWE for creating prototypes/ testing on his car, but he did think our cars came with a k04 turbo..lol I wish !

    thanks for the insight guys

Does Giac have a test pipe file or are you throwing a code?

    Re: GIAC X plus chip

I have GIAC-X and i love it. i'm not gonna say its the best because i have not ridden in any other chipped car but the car is so much quicker. i can make 6 second 0-60 runs. low end to mid range torque is amazing but it still lacks power in the top end. boost peaks at 23 psi which is pretty insane.. i've gone through one DV so far. car's significantly faster than stock and i love it.

only thing missing is a Testpipe file to delete the CEL

    Re: GIAC X plus chip

I have speak up about this.......I have GIAC X Chip for over 1 1/2 yrs now. I love the power BUT after installing an AWE exhaust and testpipe at the same time, my boost levels have been ALL OVER THE PLACE. The boost spikes to 23 lbs and then fluctuates like I'm taking my foot on and off the throttle. ALSO, when on the highway and I lean into the throttle all the way, I can sometimes go into limp mode with ZERO boost for a minute or two. I have gotten reflashed before and still didn;t help the situation. No one has figured it out and its been over a year. Once again the power is great but its truly annoying ot have your boost go UP and DOWN constantly and also go into LIMP MODE.

All this happened literaly right after exhaust and testpipe install?

    Re: GIAC X plus chip

ya i hate when i go into limp mode. just kidding but i have revo stage I no complaints. its all about convenience of getting either chip. i have about 5 friends running revo stage I and II's with absolutely no problems besides one had his dv blown (which is likely with any chip). I chose revo because of the location the dealer was at and that it seemed to offer the most performance gains.

It sounds like your problems are being caused by your test pipe, not your GIAC programming. Your GIAC programming is not tuned to work with a test pipe. There are plenty of examples of cars running great with the GIAC X+ Flash and an exhaust.

Have you considered removing the test pipe?

    Re: GIAC X plus chip

GIAC has no stage 2 software so people find a way to eliminate the CEL but that still doesn't fix the fuel cuts you will get without the stage 2 software. Id recommend going back to REVO, i know a lot of people switched to REVO because its a good solid chip and I haven't heard of any complaints. I have REVO stage 2 and I couldn't be happier
