    Windows up/down with key fob?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

I've heard it's possible to program an Audi key FOB to open/close the windows and sunroof by holding unlock/lock, respectively. Is this possible on a B6S4? If so, can it be done by hand or do you need a VAGCOM scanner thing? And if you need a VAGCOM, does anyone have one in the Hoboken, NJ area? ;)

    TIA!
    Cheers,
    -Kurt

Can be done with a VAG-COM...

Windows open and close but the sunroof only closes on mine.

Anyone else find it doesn't really work that well? I have to hold unlock about 3 times to get the windows down, and usually at least twice to get them up.

if you're initially locking your car, then you have to press it again to get the windows up, and if you're unlocking your car for the first time, then u have to press it again to get the windows to go down. Works like a charm for me.

and yes, VAGcom will be needed. I also did the fog light mod via VAGcom (no wire splicing needed!), and unlocking all doors at the same time.

I've never had any problems with having to press buttons 2 and 3 times. You will need a vag-com to program the car. Unless your dealer is cool, they will charge you to do it. It only closes sunroof, won't open it.

^ Yeah, that! Seatbelt chime - ftl.

I occasionally will have to press the button more than once - but it's usually just a distance thing.

Oh man I need that seatbelt chime off ASAP!!!

It constantly stays on in my car if the key is in the ignition in the on or started position, unless I have my seatbelt on...only after driving without a seatbelt for about 10 minutes will it shut off...even if I am parked it is on! Ugh

How do I fix that? And how would one know if they have the VAG-com?

VAG-com is a software program in a laptop that you hook up to your car to re-program things like windows, seatbelt chime, etc. The dealer has another tool (can't remember what it's called) like VAG-com that they use. The dealer or someone who has a VAG-com can re-program your car to turn off the chime.

Re: Windows up/down with key fob?

Here's the deal, this stuff will cost you about $20 max. Go on flea-bay and get yourself a vag-com cable for about $15.

    Follow this tutorial: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=158766

    The Ross-Tech software here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/archives.html

You do not need to pay for the full version to clear codes or make the mods we are talking about here. You do need to pay if you want to see things like pending error codes (ones that haven't caused the CEL to come on yet) and data logging ability.

Done. Now you can see your own CEL codes etc instead of paying the dealer, enjoy.

One more edit, I think this works on both B6/B7s. I should warn though that the upcoming models will probably use the CAN interface (A3s and A8s already do) Those cables are different but can be had for $30.

Doesn't it turn off the "bump safety" when using the one touch up feature for rolling up your windows. I did the key fob window feature back in 2001 in my B5 S4 and the bump safety was disengaged after it was programed. It was too dangerous so I had the key-fob code changed back.

You know, this is one mod that I won't do on my S4... I did this to my 99 A4, to get the windows to roll up you need to hold down the button on the key fob for a few seconds. While you're holding down the button the pump that controls the power door locks is running constantly which is a big no-no, on the B5 it was notorious for failure. My power door lock pump failed when I was rolling my windows up, I'm sure it would have died anyway but I'm also sure rolling up/down the windows with the remote hastened the failure. Just an FYI, the friggin pumps are expensive.

If Sparkey above stuck his head out the window while the driver was rolling it up the bump safety would ensure that Sparkey wasn't decapitated. Kinda like the safety on a garage door opener.

"Bump Safety" The real answer is when the window is being powered up and there is a obstruction in the way like a hand or dog, the window stops and goes back down.

    ahh gotcha.

why would it be disengaged just by that auto-up feature being engaged? strange combo.

do you mean it's not effective (bump safety) when using the remote, but is still normally effective using the window controls?

Re: Windows up/down with key fob?

The bump safety did not work at all when I had it programed for the remote window up feature. If I used the one touch up feature with the window switch, the window would not stop if there was a obstruction. This was with my B5 S4.

I sometimes have this problem too. I've found it might take 2-3 tries before it responds. I usually have to momentarily press lock to set the alarm, wait a second, then press and hold the button again and the windows will go up. I sometimes have to press and hold a second time to make them go up. Same to roll them down sometimes too. (press to unlock, wait a second then press and hold to roll down)

When it works, the windows closing when holding the door lock button will also close your electric sunroof

i am gonna keep trying hopefully i figure out how the car is willing to respond. Because i have no problem at all make them go down is just the going up the it struggles with.
i wonder if it has something to do with me no been able to adapt channel #62 to the value of 95, whats weird is that when i put 95 on it an test it the computer brings it down to 31 by itself for some reason so i am no sure where the problem really is..

maybe is my key i am looking into getting a new key as well soon sense my second key got lost at the lake this past summer so will see what happens.

Mine has that issue as well, and that is what I have to do to fix it as well, plus distance issue.
