    Building a 1.8T Engine

Im currently attending UTI which some of you might have heard of. I currently have a 96 2.8 V6 and over the course of my time at UTI I want to build my own 1.8T to swap into my B5 when I have enough knowledge. Basically I want to know when building the motor what aftermarket parts would get me the most power and bang as far as manifold, cams, cam gears, turbo and intercooler and other parts i haven't mentioned.

the 1.8t forum on vwvortex has tons of reading material. Since you are in school, it would be best to read, learn, and come up with your own plan. When you have specific questions that you can't find an answer to, then ask. Asking generic questions will get you generic or biased answers.

I have no preference. I guess maybe a better question would be what parts on a stock 1.8T are upgradable?

    Turbo
    Intercooler
    Manifold
    Throttle Body
    Cams
    Cam Gears

    What else am I missing?

EVERYTHING is upgradeable, and I mean everything for the most part. The only limit is how deep your pockets can go. Search is your friend, from the looks of it you have no HP goals or anything, figure out what you want out of the car and go from there.

Really you dont need anything except a good intercooler, RODS, and a big turbo (with supporting hardware such as boost controller, diverter valve, injectors, exhaust, flowing intake).

    What are your HP goals?
    300?
    400?
    500?
    600?
    700+?

Its all in what turbo you use.

How about we get back to basics- How much power do you want, what sort of powerband are you after, and what are your uses for the car (street, highway pulls, autox, road course, drag, etc) .

We need some info to tailor our suggestions to your case, rather then simply pointing you to the engine parts section on one of our websites and telling you to buy it all starting with a and ending at z. :)

I think it may be a better idea to start with something other than a 1.8.... possibly a 2.0 or a vr6?

300hp is a good mark to shoot for, but it's your call.

Read through a lot of the engine builds and see what you're getting into. Knowledge is power, power and knowledge are addicting.

First and foremost, is this going to be a daily driver, weekend toy, or track car? That'll put you in the right direction.

    Re: Building a 1.8T Engine

Ok i want an HP output of between 400-450. 400 and above would be real nice to me. Its basically a DD but I wouldn't mind having it drag once in a while. My school sponsors a drag event twice a year and going sometime and being about to put down nicely would be my goal. Like i said 400 or about would be my goal for HP.

Since basically since everything is upgradable what is the best parts to upgrade to give me that much output for a DD/occasional drag running. I want to stay away from nitrous altogether.

As mentioned above what size/brand turbo would be best for that gain?

What brand FMIC is better then others?

    Who makes good upgraded rods?

    What size/brand injectors are recommended?

What kind of intake is best?

Custom FMIC is better than others since your setup will most likely be custom

IE makes rods and so does Scat, IE is a sponsor of these boards though, might want to go with them

Your going to have to at least run 630cc Siemens, once again, IE can get them for you

If your asking what intake is best when doing a custom big turbo setup, you need to do WAY more research on how turbos work

that is going to be extremely costly but not impossible. i know they make valve body upgrades (level10) and one of the audizine advertisers makes trannys for auto i believe but 400hp is quite a stretch. thats going be to be quite costly to make it hold that power

    Re: Building a 1.8T Engine

You don't need a 3071R to get 400chp. Its a sure win, but not needed.

Walbro's also die. Get a Bosch fuel pump.

it's a tip? if I were you, I wouldn't want any yahoo to drive the 400+whp car I spent a shitton of time perfecting and building. But it's a lot less work keeping it auto i guess.

Our tip transmissions are the slowest things in existence. your going to need a bottom end out of an automatic because the cranks are different.

    Do you have $8k?
