this might be a newb question but is this timing belt/pump back yardable or is this a dealer job? I'd say I'm a better than average backyard mechanic, just new to the S4...

It's doable, but it requires removing the whole front end and I think you're looking at a full weekend's worth of work. I think it's worth the savings on labor, but it's quite a beating.

By now, I'd bet that every single TB kit out there supplies the revised metal impeller pump. I don't even think Audi makes the plastic one anymore for 2.7Ts....

Perf Cafe's kit is $299 (not $189). Differences are:

- Perf Cafe includes the crank and cam seals ($17 extra at JHM)
- Perf Cafe includes coolant (prices vary)
- JHM includes hour-long DVD with specific instructions on replacing the TB on the S4 (not offered anywhere else and based on the JHM videos I've seen could be priceless)

Mike@PC: Could you specify the manufacturers on your TB-kit parts? I've seen complaints about other vendors supplying less-than-OEM pieces. It would be nice to know if you'll be getting discount parts or genuine OEM stuff. Thanks

I'd say between 60-85k. Depends on how you drive. On the gas like crazy, change it sooner. Drive like a grandma, change it later. Just my opinion. Stage of car will probably matter too, more power means stuff wear out faster on the car. And also how many miles you put on the car. If you like 20k in 6 years, probably good to change it since the parts are getting old. Just some examples/my opinion.
