    New New Bushings Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So about 3 months ago i got a h&rs / bilstein setup, and ever since then my car has been squeeking on ever bump.

Anyway i had her up yesterday and was told that the control arm bushings went bad, and need to be replaced. he also stated they do not come seperately so he would have to buy the complete set. he said that its 116 each x2, and 50 for install. is there any place i could get just the new bushings? and would putting the regular stock ones even suffice the problem so it wont happen again.

let me know your input. thx!

i searched and found some random site, clicky clicky you think that will be good, or should i just get it all replaced like he said?

    Re: New New Bushings Help

You might be better off just buying the upper control arms and just swapping them out. I would think the labor costs of just installing the bushings + the parts would come out to nearly the same as just replacing the whole arms.

    Re: New New Bushings Help

I would support the idea of replacing just the bushings if the ball joint and control arm had low mileage(under 50,000). The boots on the ball joints of the upper arms take a beating and quite often split leading to ball joint failure.

I doubt the squeaking is coming from the control arm bushings(i'm not saying that it is not, it's just not common), though I don't doubt they are worn. Usually the squeaking comes from the front sway bar bushings. The control arm bushings may be worn if the ride height of your car was changed after the H&R / Bilstien combo was installed. Most likely when new suspension was installed the bushings were not "re-set" to the new ride height. The control arm bushings are like small radial rubber springs(for lack of a better description) at static ride height, the spring is relaxed(under no tension). If the ride height is changed and the bushings are not set to the new ride height, then the bushings will always be under tension, causing premature wear.

Hope this helps, if you have any questions PM me,
    Tom

I think one of the vendors sells a whole kit....they might chime in.

I need to replace mine as well, stock suspension but I get a squeek on the right side over ever bump I hit. Is there anyway to visually inspect the components with out taking the wheel off to determin if it in fact needs to be replaced?

i just had it checked out about 2 weeks ago and he said it was the bushings. you would have to lift it and play around and figure out the problem. but my bushings were clearly slightly damaged. hope they do chime in, i really do not want to pay 322 for two sets when i just need the bushings

Did you have a bird chirp when you would hit bumps? That is what my sounds like, that or a cricket. Only on medium to small bumps to, and speeds between 15-40 mph.
