Had to make the 450 mile drive from Chicago to Erie PA this past weekend. As most of you know...it rained. It rained like a mofo. From Chicago until I got past Cleveland on 90 it was seriously a downpour at 65mph. I was hydroplaning A LOT in Indiana which was surprising, but it was really ugly. I have driven in blizzards, bad rain, and hurricane Ivan... Just driving through this on Saturday was the worst by far. 9 hours of nonstop 100% concentrated driving. Whew, I'm glad it's over! ANyway, so on the way there I had the AC blasting the whole way and as stated we were in the downpour. Took one tank to get from chicago and averaged 20.9mpg. I didn't think this was bad, but I expected better. I figured the rain had to play a major part in the weak numbers. Then yesterday I drove home and had the AC on most of the trip at about 70mph average with no rain. I averaged 25.8mpg when I filled up back home last night. I was happier with those numbers, but I think I could do better. If I didn't have to use the AC, I think I could get 28mpg. I know this is kind of a useless thread, but sometimes people post asking what the 4.2 gets mpg-wise.
