Anyone else have AT&T and hate it?

i switched to at&t when the 3g came out. i have never had a cell phone or carrier i hated so much. whether im at school, on the road, or at home, dropped calls all the time. i'm sitting here and the phone will go from full bars to 1 bar to no service and back every minute or so. i've had verizon for 8 years and im so pissed i'm about to kill my contract and pay the fine to switch back. does anyone else have crappy service around here or is it just me? maybe i got a defective phone? i just don't understand how at&t can boast about having the best network. i cant even make a damn call.

Honestly out of all my friends/family, I usually have the best reception. My only dead zone happens to be my own house.. =T
My only gripe is this "Tilt" I purchased months ago. I had a defective unit so I was referred to one of their Device Support Centers in Colma. After waiting for almost an hour, I was finally able to exchange my unit for another. Well now this new unit is acting up just like the first (unable to send/receive messages - text & email). AT&T has a policy: you must go through the warranty exchange program atleast 3 times before they'll let you purchase a different model utilizing your "upgrade option". What a PITA! Isn't twice enough?! Isn't more than once a sign you got a bad product on your shelf?!

your signals drops bc you most likely have 3G on so its always looking to pick it up

I would NEVER use At&t. They let George Bush spy on the American people. They let George Bush listen to peoples phone calls with out a warrant. At&t sucks and I would not use any of their services even if they were the last carrier on earth!

Are you sure at&t only does that? Im sure if Bush wanted to listen to other carriers he could without a warrant. I have at&t, its not the best carrier out there, i believe verizon is as far as service goes, but it does the job. At&t reminds me of comcast in a way that they are both self-absorbed monopolies.

No problems here, had it for years. Used to have a Razr, then a Blackberry 8125 or something, now I have an HTC Hermes (8525) and it works great.

try updating your iPhone to the new 2.1 software version. They claim to have fixed a lot of bugs, but only time will tell.

Ive been with AT&T for 7 years and havent had a problem like this until i got the 3G iPhone. Try taking it in to Apple, if your phone is defective they might give you a new one... Im on my second 3G iPhone now and I expect to get a new one before my service plan expires.

I've had AT&T/cingular as long as I've ever had a cell phone(6 years), and I've always had great reception, even when friends with different carriers had little or no signal. Currently I'm rockin the first gen iPhone and it's been pretty problem free, but I've heard from everyone that has the 3G that it's awesome at everything else, but is THE worst phone ever. Everyone I know that has a 3G drops calls all the time when I'm on the phone with them. Best thing to do? download and install the new 2.1 update! My boss just did it and he said it fixed sooooo much stuff it's crazy. He gets reception where he didn't before, better battery life, and claims the audio is better too. How Apple pulled that off via an update? I have no idea. voodoo?

I have an Iphone 3g and it works ok....I really think the 3g's have problems because i had a first gen iphone and it had no problems now my 3g drops calls all the time, this is known by apple and att. Apple is blaming att and att is blaming apple its rediculous. I have read up on it and apparently the Iphone 3G's have some sort or internal antenna problem that apple is trying to fix with updates that don't work.....we will see what happens...some have said recall but i guess we will have to wait and see

hmm I've been using ATT/Cingular since 2003, and loving it so far. I suually get better reception than my friends with verizon..

It's your 3g iPhone not AT&T. They should have put out a recent fix for it. Make sure you have the latest software.

I just picked up my iPhone last week, no issues so far. The version is 2.0.2 (5C1)

i updated to 2.1 on sunday. it fixed a lot of issues but somehow the reception got worse. i'll be stuck with no service for about 5 minute spans. then ill get full bars for 20 seconds, it'll drop to 1 bar, then no service again. this is all without using or moving my phone at all. i spent 55 minutes talking to at&t about it. they told me its probably the phone. i'm going to take it into apple and see what they say. if its not the phone, i'm just gonna take the 175 hit and cancel my contract and go back to verizon.

i've had verizon for the longest time (since college - 7 years or so) and only recently switched over to at&t as my company is paying for the blackberry service, and i must say i cant tell much of a difference.

you can check coverage maps on their website to a street level granularity. I checked ours before and it was fairly accurate. It said our backyard is on the dead zone, our front yard is on the orange zone. We have to stand in our front door to talk. Better phones have better reception. The iphone has the best reception of all the phones we have. So my wife’s phone works pretty much all over the house, and I have to stand in a corner to work mine.

T-mobile was the worst we ever had, even though they used Cingular sites. Verizon worked well in our area, but useless when we travelled. Good thing one of us had Cingular at the time.

Turn off your 3g and you'll get better reception. Overall, I think you have a bad phone. Shoot me a PM if you need help. I work for ATT...

I've had at&t since 2003 and never had any major issues. my wife has a 3g phone and her calls always drop and shes got no service at our apartment. i got an old slvr and it works fine cuz i busted my treo at work :(. thinking of getting the iphone 3g but it doesnt seem like people are happy with it?

Have at&t going through my 3rd phone (renewal plan upgrades, so this is start of years 5 and 6). 1st a sony ericson, was great. Then the first gen Razors, worked great. Recently got the Blackjack 2, and its okay. Features are tight, but battery, reception, and audio cut off is a pain, especially at school.

i like my 3g as a phone. the third party apps and games rock. its just the reception that seems to get me down. its either i got a busted phone or my reception just sucks in general.
