    that all depends.

i don't have ANY of it. but i can pass emissions no problem.
this is going off the fact that I have people in my area who either A)don't care to poke around under the hood or B)wouldn't know what the hell they were looking for even if they did.

also my tune sets all my readiniess codes to pass permanently, so when they plug me into the machine i pass no problem. as long as they can beep my horn and flash my lights it's all gravy

Because when its lit up for something stupid as SAI it conceals being lit up for something more important (misfires, bad O2, etc..) which could, potentially, lead to big problems.

misfires = flashing CEL, as long as you vag the car regularly and know your car, nothing to worry about

To add to that, if your CEL is already on (say for SAI pump) and you start misfiring, the CEL will still flash.

Happened to me about 2 days ago (that whole vacuum leak problem)

    Nope.

I get misfires and my CEL does not flash. They are 'soft' misfires. Intermediate misfires.

The CEL flashes if you are misfiring 100% of the time.

Are there ways to remove things in stages? Like if someone doesn't want to remove everything but just some things?

I removed all my smog crap on my motorcycle and that was cake, but a car is a little bit more involved and it's my daily driver.

Of course, SAI, EVAP, Crank/VC vent, N249, and the suction pump are all different systems that do different things

    Positive.

I got rid of those cold copper plugs and put new F5DPORs in. I also advanced the cam gear a tad (to where BobQ wanted it) when I swapped plugs. Same problem at start-up but its not as pronounced. My cold start was always a slight problem. Even on the stock 1.8T with GT28RS. Its in the software. We never 'finished' that part of the software.

Both those types of plugs gave/give me the same symptoms. Have you tried a stock heat range or 1 range colder to see if there is any difference?

Nope. Guess I could have put my NGK copper plugs (B6 something or other) in but I never thought about that. I ran those plugs when I was k03.

Question Re: DIY - B6 1.8t - Vacuum line and Check Valve removal/simplification

i just got done changing my "rear coolant flange" and what a pain due to having to remove most of the hard piping shown in this DIY. Just wondering, i have vag-com, basically completely stock motor except for porsche diverter valve. can i use the vag-com to set the readiness so i do not get a "CEL" from having the SAI system removed?

No it is not something you can do with vag-com as has been said a few times in the thread already. It is only something the tuners can do as they write the software

    It really is very easy.

In all honesty, I really didnt know 100% what I was doing when I started but, as I went along it all started to make sense, on what each system does and what to take off and what to leave.

Those two links are crucial for you to read and then it all comes together!
