    Turn signal too Hot? Help!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everybody...
i upgraded my headlight housing to the valeo e-codes and have xenon headlights.

I recently saw that for some reason one of my turn signals becomes so hot (could be bulb or the wire) that it has begun to melt away the plastic that surrounds the bulb (this is the plastic part that surrounds the turn signal bulb so that you see most of the light from straight on and reflects the light within the headlight housing).

Now i have a few little plastic pieces in the headlights..and i dont want anymore plastic to melt or i wont have the outer cover of the turn signal.

hope that made sense...anyone know what to do?

Are you saying that the headlight housings are Xenon themselves? Or that you have an HID kit/Xenon lights? Either way, should not really matter if we are referring to the turn signal/parking light. A possible cause could be a bad ground. I don't know which wire inside the connector is for the ground, but could be a reason.

my headlight housing is the xenon ready housing...and i do have an hid kit.

several months ago on my previous headlight housing (valeo again but not the xenons) i had the turn signal bulb explode/cracked inside the housing...not sure if this has anything to do whats going on

just dont know what to do...the setup i have right now was really expensive

Order a new connector for the turn signal. If you get a used one, cut the old one off, splice new one in, seal it with heated shrinking tube (then you can wrap it in electrical tape to make it look like a harness again), and hopefully that would cure the problem. I think the ground for the connector is messed up.

If you order the entire harness, that would be even better. As the ground to the other side of the connector could also be the issue. But more than likely it is a bad ground on the connector.

EDit: It could also be a bad ground on the socket itself (I have both turn signal sockets from my Valeo Halogen Ecode if you want to purchase. The connectors were different, so I just used my US spec turn signal sockets for my Ecode headlights). But somewhere in your circuit there is a bad ground (in my opinion). Either on the harness (connectors) or the socket itself. I have the socket if you need to test if it is that (it is for the facelift one peice. if you have the 2 peice you will need to source elsewhere). And you can get the connectors for cheap from places like A&P, but I do not know if the sell the entire harness. But they usually have at least 6-7" of slack and the connectors for cheap in stock.

Re: Turn signal too Hot? Help!

I had the same problem on my bulb covers. My bulb covers literally melted away within 15 minutes of me turning on my lights (yes, i was piiiiiiiissed). I called LLTEK about the problem and he replaced both of my corners for free (have 2pc lights).

What we discovered was that the bulbs he sent (S-Yo's) came with one of the two locking pins on the bulb ground-off, and that was allowing the bulb to shift (or wiggle) inside the bulb holder. This caused the bulb to lean to one side and make contact with the bulb cover, thus melting it. When he sent me the new corners, he also sent me a new set of S-Yo's with both locking pins still attached and i haven't had a problem since. Not even a hint of melting and i've had the new corners on for over a year now.

With that being said, check your bulb for any type of play inside the bulb housing. I don't know what type of bulbs you are using (pin/blade), but that could be why your bulb covers melted. If that looks okay, then try painting your bulbs with a light coat of silver to reduce the amount of heat output.

    Hope that helps
