    car has some major issues

This has been an ongoing problem for a while and my stealership cant seem to give me an answere and i cant figure it out as well. On cold start up there is a high pitch wine from the front accompanied by my car sputtering for 30sec - 1 min. then all calms down i pulled some codes (p1128. p0300. 0301, 0302, 0303, 0304.) i replaced the coils and plugs, the MAF is a month or two old, those were my ideas. the dealer said it was my cat or turbo?! i dont blow any smoke there is no shaft play and the blades spin fine and i have a gutted cat so it cant be that. and my car is in limp mode so i have no power. with the exhaust off at the downpipe it starts to misfire when i hit boost. This car just plain hates me. what could be plaguing my car

Re: car has some major issues

The misfire codes are obvious. That is the reason your car sputters from 30 seconds started up to 1 min.

P1128, P0300, are the basis of your codes and the rest just tell which cylinders are mifiring. You can look up the meaning for the codes from here. I highly doubt spark plugs or ignition coils are your problem. It has more to do with a fueling issue. Check your fuel injectors to see if they are seated and plugged properly.

FWIW, I am doing the same thing tommorow. I have fueling issues and need to find out why.

ya i was just thinking about that i know they are seated correctly cus i was doin some tinkering at work. I was thinking about a seafoam or running some injector cleaner. could it also be a coolant temp sensor cus ive heard some talk about that?

Re: car has some major issues

I am no expert, but maybe another can chimme in. But if you want to check the sensor, then clean the connectors. There are maybe 5 codes that are designated for issues with the coolant tempurature that can lead to the sensor being the issues (and there are other codes that have the sensor being a factor in it). In the codes you listed, none of the solutions granted by Ross Tech pointed to a bad coolant temp sensor. But once again, I am no expert.

I know tommorow I will heave to find out what is up with my fueling. I replaced the valve cover gasket for my engine, then threw 3 codes afterwards. One of my codes is the P0300, just as yours. Here is what Ross Tech said about that:

    Possible Causes
    Air Intake System leaking
    Fuel Supply faulty
    Injector(s) faulty
    Ignition Cable(s) and/or Spark Plug(s) faulty
    Ignition Coil(s) faulty
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18) stuck/open
    Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
    Possible Solutions
    Check Misfire Recognition
    Check Air Intake System
    Check Fuel Supply
    Check Injector(s) and Injector Sealing
Check Ignition Cable(s) and Spark Plug(s)
    Check Ignition Coil(s)
Check Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve (N18)
    Check Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
So I will take those steps. I am thinking it is just a short in the ingition coil harness or something and it would be something silly like me just moving the harness a little bit to remedy. But I will check other things as recommended.

My advice for you, is to follow the recommended solutions on Ross Tech. Or wait for another more knowledgable about these sitiations to chimme in.

Re: car has some major issues

to maybe make things a little clearer it only misses on cold start up and most of the time when i hit about 3000 rpm. but the odd part is on a rare occasion it will take off on my and easily go past the 3 grand mark and not misfire at all.

Re: car has some major issues

For some odd reason I think it is a really simple solution such as replacing spark plugs. When did you replace plugs (yes, I saw in your original post, but when?) and what are your mods, if any?

Re: car has some major issues

Try a coolant temperature sensor. It's cheap and takes 2 minutes to change. It's right at the back of the head.

may want to look into the ICM too. If you have a buddy with a 1.8T, just swap em out - it's right above your air box, held down by 2 screws. Takes 10 minutes to swap em and find out if that's causing your issue.
