Tranny swap Question!!!

Alright so i have seen the guys do it for the Quattros but i dont have the 4x4. I can't find a B6 1.8T 5-speed transmission Anywhere for sale... not even good ole ebay. So can anyone tell me what the difference between a b5 5speed and the b6 5 speed is? im just looking to swap 1.8T trannys, not do the crazy low geared 2.8. I have all 3 b5 trannys in stock right next door to me at an exclusive audi porsche and vw salvage yard but they are all in cars and wont get pulled unless i buy one. So can this swap be exactly the same as the featured 2.8 swap?

So, You DO NOT have a quattro?

You can swap in a front-wheel-drive transmission if that is what your car has. The B5s have slightly different gearing but if you're a 1.8T it should fit. You'll most likely have to still use your B6 front driveshaft flanges like we've been doing on the quattros. The flanges are different.

**Nope, not quattro**A hard shift from first to second ended up into nothing in that bottom gear slot... it grinds like crazy when you try. everyone has been saying that the synchros are blown. it goes into 3rd 4th and 5th just 1st and 2nd seem to give a big fight. So you are real sure that this will work? i mean i read your DIY thing and it seems simple as cake, but i just gotta know that they will bolt up for sure. Also, out of the 3 different tranny codes on the b5's i found, which one should i use and whats the difference in them?

Could be the syncros for 1st and 2nd gear, mainly 2nd gear.

I have no hard and fast proof that a B5 FWD trans will bolt into your car. I don't have ETKA so I can't look up p/ns to verify. I am also not familiar with the different B5 transmission codes. Perhaps post up in the B5 forum?

Is the B6 FWD rear transmission mount the same as the quattros? In other words, does the FWD transmission come back that far in the transmission tunnel? Perhaps Shawn (a4ringedone8t) can answer those questions. I ask them because I have never physically laid a hand on working with a FWD A4 so I am not sure what the configuration looks like. My gut feel says the B6 FWD is the same rear trans mount as the B6 Quattro.

Well if it's a B5 im already set. i could seriously walk over to Austin Vee Dub and pick one up with a dolly and roll it home. If we are talking about a B6 5-speed, then id rather have that. I have no idea what sounds good as far as price right now, but if it has to be shipped thats at least 150 bucks.

Ive read all that stuff and id be able to tackle that. if the B5 stuff will fit i just need to know what the different codes are for... there are 3 different codes for b5 1.8t 5 speed trannys. which one will work, if they all will then whats the difference?

If anyone can find me a FPS tranny for my car that costs less than 1300 and will be less than 1500 shipped im sure i can work out a deal for a finders fee! So far i found one for 1450 shipped to my door.

that 6 speed should be the same as a B5 S4 or B6 A4 6speed
