    Little Help here, How do you remove the metal ring that is holding the shifter nob on. It is accessable under the shift boot... The goal is to remove the shift boot

    ummmm, you mean to remove knob??

    if so, you get that metal ring, turn left then you pull the button out a bit and pull up...

    not sure what you mean by shift boot as b7 a4s dont have them, from what I know

    you'll probably need to cut it off and just use a ring with a screw in it to tighten it, if you want to put it back.

    Yup, cut it off or use a flathead screwdriver to loosen it. Either way it'll be unusable afterwards, which is when a zip-tie can come in handy.

    You must have tip, becuase B7 A4's have shift boots.

    yea the one time clip is kinda a pain....just break it apart and then you can just pull up on the boot. Get a 1in clamp so when you put the boot back on you can make sure your knob wont move on you.

    Yes that would be a bit less ghetto than the zip-tie method. Either way, you definitely don't want the shift knob slipping off while driving.

    It is 6 Speed & I was able to take a vice grip squeze & twist & it poped off. Now how the hell do you remove the shift nob from the boot??? This can be this hard... lol

    You don't, it's all one piece. It went this way starting with the B6, as on the B5 it was two separate pieces.
