i don't think you will feel any difference swapping a stock filter for another stock filter. You should get a k&n replacement air filter for like 45 bucks and it'll last you a lifetime.

It flows better and MAY increase your MPG's a bit, but as far as a "seat of the pants" noticeable difference in power, you wont feel it.

Your best bet is a stock filter or a dry filter. The Oil from K&N and other filters has been known to effect the MAF and cause it to go bad early. As far as cone vs. replacement filters they both offer the same increase in power, just a cone filter let more hot air in and more noise out than a replacement panel. Some of the faster cars on here an a stock box and filter.

The oil from K&N filters will only screw up your MAF if you over-oil it upon cleaning. I still think it's worth it to get one though because it pays for itself after one or two cleanings.

Re: question about stock air filter..

I've been running a K&N FreeFlow Panel (drop-in replacement for the OEM one) for more then two years with cleanings every 6 months and have not had a single issue with the MAF. the problem is when people clean the filter and put way to much oil on it which then gets sucked into the MAF and it doens't read correctly since it's soaked in oil. it's user error that causes this not the filter. do it the right way and you won't have any issues with it.

Agree. But this filter does not require any oil. It cheaper to maintain as well.

A clogged air filter will decrease the performance of the car, which also includes decreasing the mpg's.

So, yes..putting in a new OEM air filter to replace a old & clogged filter, you will feel an increase in performance, however technically you're not increasing performance --- you're restoring performance.

AFE filters are the way to go. There are a number of people that used K&N filters with problems ended up at the MAF
