So my car got crushed tonight

I got rear ended in a parking lot. Lucky enough I was there and saw the guy do it because I think he was about to take off. I'm so pissed right now, I have a huge dent in my rear bumper and my trunk lid corner is bent in. What do you guys estimate for damages? I'm thinking now would be a good time to get an S4 rear bumper, and most likely they'll have to replace my trunk. I'm going to get the guys number tomorrow so I'd like to know whether we should go through the insurance company or not. I'll take pictures if necessary, but it's a little too dark out right now.


Oh, and earlier in the day I found a screw in my tire which I'll probably have to replace. My life sucks.

Sorry to hear about that but at least you were there to catch the guy. I don't know how much the damages for the bumber would be but to give you an idea about the trunk, I got 3200.00 to replace mine. I had a gate at a construction site fall on the back of my car.

It would be as good a time as any. Just take the check and search out your own body shop instead of using a "gauranteed" repair shop that most insurance companies want you to use.

This is why I park as far away from other vehicles in parking lots as possible. Even if its a very long walk. I don't care. I don't trust anyone. If its a parking lot that is full I go somewhere else or go home and get my Jeep to drive since I don't care what happens to that.

A rear bumper with paint is about $1200 from most body shop quotes. Add in the trunk and you are looking at about $2000. I would get the most expensive quote from the place you are not going to, turn that in, get the check and order a euro trunk and S4 bumper.

Definately go through his insurance in case there is add'l damage behind the bumper cover like the absorber or impact bar. You dont want to take a cash offer and get screwed. Especially because the car was parked and the liability will definately be accepted by his company with no question.

Thanks for all the responses. My Dad works in the auto salvage business so he has friends who own body shops, so I'm not really too concerned about getting a quote. I'm just not sure if I'd want those shops to actually do the repair. If I had like a Honda or my Oldsmobile Aurora I'd say go for it, but I'd prefer a shop that does quality paint work. I'm also so happy it somehow missed my tail light since I've already had one pair smashed and I'd flip if I lost these LED ones. I'll go outside and take pics now.

First some truck parks on top of it.


Then like an idiot I back into my garage (only paint damage to my car).


Now this happens. Hopefully this all ends up working out and my rear will no longer be cursed.

I'm definitely considering it, unless there is a better bumper I should be looking at. I do have the stock kit though, so anything that would look awkward with that is out of the question.

Probably not, I'm pretty sure it conflicts with my work schedule. Where did you get your front bumper done? PM me with a number and stuff because the more I'm thinking about it I want to go to a high end place to get the work done and not have one of my Dad's friends and their generic body shops do it.

The good thing is that this is really no structural damage, just a matter of replacing bolt-on body parts and paint.

Any suggestions on the best place to get an S4 bumper? I'm not even sure how this works, do I just tell the body shop while I'm getting the work done I want to do an S4 instead or what? I've really never been in an accident and have next to no experience with insurance companies.

If the insurance company cuts you a check, take that money and purchase the parts. For a S4 bumper, you might want to try Greg (400HPA4) for the parts. He sells them for less than retail.

Make sure the body shop you go with allows you to bring your own parts. Some don't allow this as they make money of the parts as well as the labor.

dude, i dont know if your insurance company will care, but you didnt call the cops or anything, and you said you have to go get the dudes phone number. so when you file with his insurance company, or your own for that matter, they may try and not cover the damage because there is no police report.. it sounds stupid but this happened to me. a woman backed into my car (my civic not a4) in a grocery store lot, i was in the car at the time so we exchanged insurance info but neglected to call the police because she said she was late for work and couldnt wait, and me being an understanding person as no one was hurt and my bumper was just cracked and i could drive the vehicle i let her leave and called my insurance company (it was Erie insurance). they immediatly informed me that i should have called the police and i explained the situation and they said it didnt matter, there was no way to prove the accident was her fault and that if i wanted the car repaired it would go against my insurance. to make a long story short, after weeks of dealing with them they told me i was not going to be recieving any money to fix my car from them or from allstate (the womans insurance company). all that because i failed to call the police after a minor accident that happened while i was parked. hope you have more luck!

I think it depends where u live or your insurance. I backed into a guy in a parking lot with my truck once and there happen to be a cop around so we asked him if we needed a police report he said no. Sure enough we did the whole info swap and numbers. I called my insurance they said they would take care of it and they did. I had AAA insurance at the time. But I think in your situation where the guy didn't want to give up info I wouldve called the cops immediately. For all you know that asshole might not have insurance. Good luck though. this sux dude, i got lucky with my rear bumper fortunately. once i backed into my garage like u except the garage looked like crap but my car didn't have a scratch, and i backed into an accord once and his car had like a ginormous dent mine wasn't even scratched, i just hope i don't jinx it.

Thanks for all the sympathy guys haha. It always hurts to see another Audi damaged, but it sucks hard when it's yours. I did call the cops and when he got down there he was just like "yea for this type of thing you don't really need a police report" then we shot the shit for a few minutes before he took off.
