What is best way to keep my window up until I fix regulator?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My rear right side window regulator is out. While driving it automatically comes down, and then I have to push back up with my hands. What's a good temp fix for this, until I have parts, time etc to fix right?

    Thanks

Can get some paint stir sticks and wedge them between the door panel and glass or use clear packing tape. Duct tape will only hold for a few days in heat.

Re: What is best way to keep my window up until I fix regulator?

I went inside with piece of strong string and tied it to the green window carrier and then anywhere on the door frame.

Does anyone know if that green piece comes with a new regulator or is it sold alone? the only piece I need is the green plastic. thanks

the green plastic clip is not sold alone, you have to buy the entire unit.

HOWEVER . . . when mine failed I fixed the clip, and it works well. I'll post pictures of it later, don't have them on my server at the moment. The whole unit was a complete ripoff . . .

I had the same issue.. I just cut a long piece of wood and taped it against one of the arms that holds up the window... hella ghetto.. lol but it works.. since then, i havent fixed it and there's no way it's going to roll down..

you could probably put the window all the way up, and slap some suction cups along the bottom to stop it from falling back down

Loosen a bolt inside of the door, wrap the regulator cable that pulls the window up (not down) around it, and re-tighten it.

Re: What is best way to keep my window up until I fix regulator?

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE DUCT TAPE. The idiot previous owner of mine used it to keep a window up, and there are still marks on the paint, and dried up adhesive crust on the interior (I've had the car about a year now). Goo-gone wont even remove it all in one session. I even got the outline of the "A4" and "1.8T" badges removed easier, and in less time than this duct tape dilemma has lasted.

I did exactly this when my regulator went. Worked like a charm.

Re: What is best way to keep my window up until I fix regulator?

I just found an article someone wrote about fixing the "slug" that is on the green carrier. My rear passenger window carrier just decided to break and allowed the slug to move the window in one direction. Fortunately, I had some zip ties and the carrier has some holes already in it. I can guarantee the cable is now firmly secured in place. IIRC, in the other post, the guy used cotter pins and glue. Hope this helps and maybe saves you some money!
