    Which Oil? (2nd Thoughts)

I've been using pentosin, 5-40 fully synthetic. But because I have about 140K miles on my 30v, should I change it to Castrol Syntec 10-30 now?

Why would you want to change? ... the Castrol Syntec 5W40 is an ACEA A3 rated oil that also meets VW 502/505 and the Syntec 10W30 is not.

    Boo Castrol.

Mobil, Motul, ... there's lots of good brands out there to choose from.

I use Mobil 1 0W-40, when I get the cash I'm buying a big bulk order of Motul I think.

Brand doesn't concern me as much as viscosity does. After talking to my uncle who used to be a mechanic, he said that due to the wear on the motor, a thicker oil should be used - 10-30. Should I switch?

    Castrol Syntec 5W40 - Viscosity @ 100 degrees C = 14.0

    Castrol Syntec 10W30 - Viscosity @ 100 degrees C = 10.1

So, in other words, at operating temperature, the 5W40 is thicker.
