I am no expert (maybe someone could explain it better), but the fueling the ECU grants is done by calculating measurements from the MAF and 02 sensors. On the 01 (I did not know thw 00 also), there is an extra Map sensor that the ECU could get readings from for your ECU. The problem is it is not getting proper readings. Which will lead to next issue.
You will eventually get a CEL for engine running lean if you do not diagniose the problem. You will also need to fix whatever iis the problem and plug the MAF back up. To determine whether your MAF is bad or not is to log it with a Vag Com. As I stated before, you will not get a code for a bad MAF. Only running rich or lean which leads to a bad MAF being one of the culprits.
You would need to check all the hoses and dv as everyone stated. Then after that you confirm that all of them secure we can diagnose if you have a bad MAF, but you will need a VAG com for this (but if your car runs properly after you check all hoses and dv with the MAF plugged in, the MAF is more than likely still good). You need to get under your car and check the dv. If it is torn or ripped, it can be equivalent to a loose hose. Get a 710n, place hoses back, plug MAF back in and see how the car runs. Then post back after you do that.
Do not drive with your car the way it is. I just gave you that advice to get your car home so you can fix it the proper way. Which in all actuality should not cost more than $50 to fix. If you end up needing a new MAF, I have a used extra one I could sell you for $50 (hence, why I said no more than a $50 fix. Hoses are cheap, clamps are cheap, 710n used is cheap. but not cheap when you are broke).
