    Replacing Axle..

so i bought a new axle for my 2.8 from Autoparts international (flame if you want) and with the kit it came with allen studs instead of the triple square one that it uses currently. should i re-use the triple square ones or replace with the allen studs? thanks

    Re: Replacing Axle..

i believe the auto axles use 17mm allen, the manual use triple square. Based on this I'm thinking you should take it back and ask for the correct axle...

    Re: Replacing Axle..

You will likely strip/damage one or two of the allen bolts if you are not careful. So just take your time and only, only tighten them down when they are in the 6 o'clock position and the lower control arm is raised up a little bit to make sure you have a clear shot at the bolt. Triple squares are better, but you should be fine.

    Re: Replacing Axle..

are you talking about the large bolt for the spindle or the 6 triple squares at the transmission flange? always replace the large bolt since it is tty (torque to yield aka one time use). you can re-use the smaller bolts as long as threads and bolt heads are in good condition. allen head bolts tend to strip out easily especially with a ball tip socket. i always reuse the 6 small bolts and have never had a problem. dont forget to torque the big bolt +180 degrees (or 2x 90 degree turns)

I reused both the small triple square bolts, as well as the allen axle bolt. I dont have a torx wrench so i did it to what i thought felt right ( i know, not the best idea) but it seems to be good as of right now..no more clicking at least..
