ok so i have an 01 audi tt , put new batteries in it, still only about 10 feet worth of service to lock / unlock or put the windows up/down.

i know about the chin thing for an extention but it doesnt work that well.

ive been searching on how to extend my antenna on the car for my keyless, and maybe extend the strength of the keyfob itself.

i tryed this http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2233573 but the tt doesnt have those plugs in the same location and i cant find them yet.
please help i have th car apart right now and im just looking for that clear antenna wire please.

I did it to my old A4...and will do it to my new S4, but the antenna may not be in the same place on a TT. on an B5 A4/S4, the antenna sticks out underneath the car between the right rear tire and the rear bumper. I soldiered a 12 ft long wire to it, and wrapped it back and forth across my rear bumper and it worked marvelously (until my remote battery died).

so, find where the stock antenna wire is in a TT, and soldier (or twist) a really long wire to it, and hide it somewhere in your car.

i took apart the rear driverside panel ( i got a suggestion from someone)
and still cant find it, but i did find some connections and a box with a bunch of plugs
im lost still and i really want to do this because otherwise i would have wasted all this time removing and taking apart my whole car. . .

Get a new battery for pete's sake. They work at ranges well past 25 yards easily.

does this mean the instruction on how to do this bad or the whole process is worthless and meaningless?

You have a different problem then. My TT and Avant fobs both work at ranges in excess of 20 yards routinely, more in the open.

Are batteries new out of the pack, or "new" as in recent production marked on the card.

None of the AW TT Forum know of the "wiring" fix that I can recall. More experience there in the TT than here on AZ. Those who've reported fob problems trakced it down to batteries in as many cases as I can recall. The cure for "new" batteries was good, name-brand, freshly made batteries.

I'll ask around for another solutiuon.

Re: how to extend the range of your keyless entry for audi tt

ya i went to radio shack and switched them out there it did work better but it still very short distance and not strong enough to put my windows down remotely from more then about 10 feet. the gti/jetta guys have found a way to extend the performance of there keyfobs by around 50 feet or more doign this. so im still workign on it now.

    thx

Re: how to extend the range of your keyless entry for audi tt

I have the same issue, doors won't unlock unless I am about 15 to 20 feet away, and yes it is a brand new battery in the remote. If you find the actual antenna, let me know.
I am curious if it has something to do with window tint? My radio reception is crap because of the window tint that I have. I want to find out how to relocate that antenna as well, but maybe the two of them are in the same location. I think it is in the driver side of the rear hatch. I can see a brown and black ground with a little metal box near it.

On a mk4 gti, they are ABOVE the relay panel... basically, if you went about a foot left of the steering wheel, and magically went straight through the dash, that box is mounted right there.

The only real way to get to it is to take apart most of the lower dash and the knee bar etc.

I have this same problem and it has nothing to do with the batteries. I've replaced them and the range is still no more then 10 feet or so.
