I'm guessing it's because it's not really a genuine, instructional, DIY. No offense intended.

I did recieve my console, finally. Have yet to really check the condition or parts that may or may not have come with it. Still have to figure what I have left to order. When it comes time to install, I intend to post a full DIY.

Checked the parts. All it came with was:

    The center console: 8E0-863-241-E-6PS

    Hand brake trim: 8E0-863-276-C-6PS

    Power outlet assembly: 8E0-863-284-C-6PS

The rest of the parts total out to: $262.39 from GAP. This blows.

    $178.56 --- Hand brake assembly: 8E0-711-303-L
    $36.89 ---- Hand brake Boot: 8E0-711-463-D-6PS
$14.88 ---- Hand brake bracket for boot: 8E0-711-543-D-4PK
    $8.37 ----- Hand brake button: 8E0-711-333-B-3Q7
    $0.93 ----- 3rd mounting bolt for hand brake assembly: N 101 277 07

Are you guys SURE that the B6 hand-brake assembly cannot be used???
    That assembly, alone, is $178.56...

Also, is it significant that these wires (upper left) were cut? I have not had any experience with the center console yet, so I don't even really know what they go to...

^ If i would have known I had to do a b7 hand brake swap too, I would have said FCK it. I am sick of Audi of how their parts peel, cup holders suck, and list of other things. Right now my B7 center console and new arm rest( that have some type of charging looking thing with 2 sets of wires come out of the armrest) installed with NO cover under the Hand break to i can still drive the car. So annoyed this stupid hand brake is going to cost this much.

I'm amazed you can't find a B7 e-brake at a wrecking yard anywhere in the country. Seriously? The console swap isn't something you're supposed to spend hundreds of dollars on- it's JUST CUPHOLDERS. $50-$100 is the max- if you spend more it's hard to justify.

Those look like they could go to the door lock switch located on the back of the console. In which case, you would be able to swap these from your existing console.

Naaaaah. That wire bundle goes to the phone-prep option that sits in the armrest, ....never seen one actually installed, not something to worry about. though, if i see it right there may be 2 wires cut? The 2nd smaller set probably goes to the tiny LED light that the B7's have INSIDE the armrest. No biggie either, you could jump (+) to that from literally any nearby source.

Um, I love this post, especially BEFORE it was modified by I'm assuming moderators. Where is the text of the step-by-step instructions? Its merely a parts list and just pictures of the install with no words!

I just bought the center console, came back to this thread and its gone!!

    Confused.
I think you mean "thread", not "post", but if "post" is actually what you meant, I'm assuming you're referring to the OP's initial post.

I don't think there ever was an actual installation DIY guide. Why would it be modified by moderators anyway?

is there anyway the original hand brake assembly can be re-used? i thought i remember reading it can be repositioned or something... i finally just pulled my console off, had the b7 console sitting in the garage for over a year... lol. i have everything except the b7 handbrake.

if there's no way to re-use my original hand brake i do have a way of grabbing the b7 one for free, but it will have to wail all the way until friday....

ok, its definitely doable with the b6 e-brake. it just requires some modification and i believe i can make the trim piece under the brake fit as well. working on it now, will post update tomorrow.

I am definitely in for this.
I have a b7 console sitting around, waiting to be installed, because I haven't gotten around the getting the b7 e-brake and would rather not pay the ridiculous price for new parts. Curious to see how it turns out.

My only concern with making the b6 ebrake fit is that it may look cheesy and cheap with some odd gap or look like the console is chewed up or something.

I have yet to even see what the whole b6 ebrake setup looks like (in person that it) and see how it all fits together. I was thinking it may be possible to create some sort of relocation bracket. Don't know, though, because I haven't seen it myself.

its the bolt holes that are mm off. The B7 one sits more towards the drivers seat.

The bolts are udjustable. If you loosen both main bolts that are securing the ebrake assembly to the floor you are able to move the ebrake closer to the drivers seat. I was able to move mine about 3 or 4mm. The ebrake cover and the plastic piece under it is what requires trimming. I will have it all done today and will post pics.

    ok here you all go.

first thing to do is trim down the ebrake boot as well well as the plastic piece thats under the boot.

here's are the before and after pics, you see where i trimmed. you can trim down the boot a bit mre (basically, make it nice and flat in the bottom, i was gonna take it off and trimm it down a bit more, but then said f-it as my boot is in pretty beat up shape and i will just grab another one. i may grab a boot from a b7 ebrake and see how that one fits on the b7 ebrake.

    before:

    after:

next, loosen the front nut thats securing the ebrake assembly to the frame and move the ebrake as much towards the drivers seat as possible. i was able to move it good 3-4 mm.

that's pretty much it. the brake now will fit the new console just fine. it will still be a bit tight once you get that trim piece under the e-brake and the bottom of the boot will touch the cover a little bit, but very minor. actually if you trim down the boot more then i did it will fit even better.

all in all, the whole swap is pretty straight forward and turned out pretty damn good. this actually completes my full b7 s4 interior conversion :):)

    here are some more pics

oh and another thing, as i was looking at it, the boot can be easily wrapped in leather, to match the shifter boot. i may just try that before replacing the boot altogether.

No offense, dude. But that looks like shit. I would never put that in my B6.

OK, that's not at all what I would think of as "fitting." There's got to be a different way of doing it. I will try a different method when I get a chance.

OK, that's not at all what I would think of as "fitting." There's got to be a different way of doing it. I will try a different method when I get a chance.
you go ahead and do that Calvin, but to tell you the truth I think considering that the B6 ebrake was never suppose to fit in the B7 center console in the first place he did a pretty good job. Why do you think it would be a perfect fit ever when it was never intended to be? I think it looks good, but i would still prefer the B7 handle.

I think if anything you should just bit the bullet and buy the new ebrake handle.

The B7 ebrake is only slightly different. Which leads me to believe that the modifications only need to be slight, as well. Not hacked up.

Anyway, I'm not trying to beat the guy down, but I'm not going to lie to him and tell him it looks good when it doesn't.

On a side note: Here's a good photo I found of the B7 console in it's broken down form. It may be useful.

all i had to do was cut the bolt holes towards the passenger side to be able to shift the ebake base towards the drivers side. With out having to hack up any of the ebrake plastic. I will take the friggin thing apart this weekend for pics

    Thank you.

What I think I'm going to do is: Add the b7 ebrake boot to the b6 ebrake.
It looks like the overall length of the boots are the same, it's just the piece that sticks out on the bottom of the boot is moved back to accomodate the b7 console. That way, I'll only spend $50, instead of $200 for the whole assembly.

I never said it was perfect, the main point is that the b6 ebrake can absolutely be used to the contrary of the other info in this thread. However, trust me when i say that there's absolutelly no way you can make the b6 boot work with minimal modifications as you're saying, the only way to make it work is to hack it up like I did.
And yes I do realize that I did not do a very good job hacking it up lol... And my cover already looks like shit to begin with. I think with some better trimming, basically making the bottom of the cover nice and flat will look 100 times better. Also, as i've mentioned and like you're saying I think b7 cover will work on the b6 ebrake as well, I will grab one on friday and will see if I can make it work. if that indeedf works that would definitelly be the way to go.

In any case post up pics when you get yours done.
