B7 center console swap -- the entire parts list, in black

I've posted this before but I couldn't edit the original list/post. Anyways, here's the entire parts list, in black:


Center console : 8E0-863-241-E-6PS

Hand brake assembly: 8E0-711-303-L

Hand brake trim: 8E0-863-276-C-6PS (this trim covers the area on the console beneath the hand brake)

Power outlet assembly: 8E0-863-284-C-6PS

Hand brake Boot: 8E0-711-463-D-6PS

Hand brake bracket for boot: 8E0-711-543-D-4PK (this is the sleeve that goes on the e-brake assembly first, then the actual boot fits over this)

Hand brake button: 8E0-711-333-B-3Q7 (yes, you guessed it, the e-brake button is sold separately)

3rd mounting bolt for hand brake assembly: N 101 277 07 (thanks to skeeball for providing this info)

NEW INFO: If need to order these items in other colors, you would simply need to replace the part numbers ending the black color code, "6PS" with the following color codes that apply to you:

EC3 - light platinum (grey)
4D9 - indigo
8C1 - torrone (beige)

This is everything you'll need. Now there is one other part, which is the metal "U' shaped bracket that fits in the console, beneath the hand brake for support but it is ABSOLUTELY not needed. I promise you. I wasted money purchasing this piece.

Took me about half the day. I got things at cost pretty much so it was under $400 for everything. Yes, the autos and manuals have the same part numbers, except for the shift boot, etc.

Now Gondi Stylz do a DIY write-up and everyone should be good. The tricky part is the e-brake. It is tricky to release the cable yoke tension and a little tricky to hook the e-brake cables back up and re-tension. Otherwise the install is fairly straightforward.

The new console is the new finish which does not look like it will peel like the old ones. If you have a black interior (Soul) it will match perfectly. I've heard the beige is different. Don't know about other colors. Plus, the 2 usable cup holders are at a lower center of gravity than the dash mounted cup launcher. You will never spill a drop with these! Only downside is you lose the cool James Bond cigarette lighter.

^^ The only tricky thing is releasing and re-tensioning the brake cables. Everything else is straight forward. Here are some tips though:

1. you have to remove the radio and climate control. The climate control is not screwed in but rather fitted in with spring clips to hold it in place.

2. there are plenty of screws, most of them are hidden under the tranny shifter plate.

3. IN the rear of the console, make sure you remove the bolts that hold the arm rest on.

4. Remove the door locking/rear seat heating assembly location at the rear of the center console.

5. The factory wire harness for the original cig lighter will not mate to the new cig lighter, you'll have to cut the wires and attach female blade terminals on the ends and just plug 'em up to their appropriate contacts.

No need for a DIY. Just start unscrewing screws and your existing center console is out. Start screwing in screws and the new one is installed. Its fairly simple.

my biggest complaint about the b7 is the cupholder, personally i hate it there....good idea though

In my friends 06 b7, the rubberized surfaces are peeling WAY more than my 02. His arm rest looks like it has a terrible sunburn.

I just reread the post. On my Jetta I was able to "Adjust" the e brake handle with my foot so it bent into place and I saved almost half the cost. did it a year ago and no problems whatsoever...

The color code for platinum appears to have not changed between the B6 and B7 so I would assume the colors match. No guarantee. So for platinum interior you would change the '6PS' in all the above part numbers to 'EC3'.

I know this thread got resurrected, but I figured I would throw out the info for future searchers.
