high milage plus GIAC ecu upgrade ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So after reading review after review after review on ecu upgrades and also exhaust systems I have decided to go with the awe exhaust and the GIAC fx03 BI program. Now my question is I my car just turned past the 100k mark a couple of days ago. I understand that the GIAC program has a stronger torque curve than other manufactures and I was wondering if this might be an issue with so many miles or should I look into possibly another manufacture that is more smooth through out the power band like revo, apr, unitronic, etc... Thanks.

no problems many people well over. just make sure you did full synth big filter changes every 5K and plugs yadda. good maintenance. also worst case you might end up upgrading to a k04 or BT when the turbo dies. everything else will start falling apart about 105K :)

I'm @ 50K and when you go to the GIAC FX03 file, weak areas will be exposed. Gotta figure that the car is running what, 8 Lbs. of boost and are now pushing 20-21Lbs.
Hoses and coil packs will almost definitely crap out.

I went through a coil pack and I keep blowing the hose connecting the throttle body and intercooler off at partial boost to give you an idea of how the new power will affect things.

I did the GIAC FX at around 93k with the AWE exhuast and haven't had any issues. Prior to doing it though I did and oil change, large filter, new plugs and the Hitachi "E" coils, and my TB job to be on the safe side, and a Forge 007 DV. I had no issues with the throttle body hose blowing off. I just passed 100K and going strong.

Like Dema said, weak areas/worn items will most likely be exopsed. What if any issues you may have will be left to be seen till you get it done. In addition to what was stated above, your clutch (if it's still the origional) may start to slip. I have REVO, but going from stage 1 -stage 2 my oem intercooler endtanks seperated from the extra boost. Also if you don't yet have an aftermerket DV, you might as well just get one now as the stock one most likely will fail being that old and w/ higher boost levels.

I also have an AWE exhaust/ER TP. After having the BI file and stock exhaust, stock exhaust and TP and finally the full exhaust and TP, I have to admit that it not only helps w/ performance, but also on a longevity side of things; my turbo doesn't get nearly as hot as it did w/o the AWE. I don't have before/after EGT's, but before if I got on the car at all or even putting sustained load on it (long hill, etc); when I would pop the hood the turbo would be glowing red (from slightly glowing to "damn...that can't be good for it"). After the AWE/TP I have yet to even see it start to glow red.
