Help!!! Problem with Immobilizer after RNS-E install.

I recently had a big problem come up after installing an RNS-E into my 2004 A41.8T QM.

I posted a thread in Telematics but maybe that was the wrong forum to post it in. It seems as though the immobilizer has been activated. Please see the below thread from Telematics.

    Update To This Thread

    Update:

I never got a chance to run the VAG-COM on the car over the weekend. I put everything back together and installed the RNS-E.

Good news = Instrument cluster now works.
Bad news = Something in immobilizer is still activated.

-Car will turn on and immediately turn off.
    -Odometer reads "SAFE"
    -Climate control non operative
-Backlights for headlight switch, climate control, and hazard light remain on when everything is shut off. Only way to turn them off is to disconnect the battery.

I'm going to call the dealer today and see if I need to get it towed in of if there's something I can do to reset the immobilizer.

Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try reinstalling the stock head unit and see if it made any difference.

I did try doing that. Same symptoms only the stock head unit would not do anything but read "Safe" on the screen.

I towed the car to the dealer today. I guess they just need to reset the immobilizer and maybe re-program my key. At least I hope that's all they have to do.

    Update To This Thread

I towed my car to the dealer on Monday night. They've been having trouble finding the actual problem. As of yesterday I was informed that they are $405 into the diagnosis.

The service advisor informed me that the ECU recognizes each part (Instrument cluster, NAV, climate control) but acts as if they do not belong in the car.

He said the faults codes are all things like "Not correct Instrument Cluster - disable fuel pump" etc. It's not fully recognizing the items so it activates the immobilizer and they're still trying to find out why.

I've only gotten one response to this thread. Someone please, if you have any advice let me know. My car has Dahlback software. Could this be an issue contributing to the problem at all?

    Update To This Thread

So, I got my car back today. After the replacement of the instrument cluster, everthing seems to work fine. The NAV works fine and everything.

The only thing odd is that when the car is completely shut off the backlight is still lit for the headlight switch and hazard light button. It didn't drain my battery overnight (I didn't think it would) so I'm totally fine with it.

The only bummer is that now my hood strut doesn't work. I'm gonna call the dealer and let them know. Hopefully they'll replace it for me seeing as how it worked when it went in.

Re: Help!!! Problem with Immobilizer after RNS-E install.

Isnt this a pretty strange problem to have had? Perhaps something shorted electrically when you pulled the radio? Did you try the other keys?

The Immo3 is by far the most irritating feature of the car. I HATE it. IMO dealership techs are overpriced for their diagnositic talent. Mechanical... fine. Diagnostic... usually incompetent. If the VAS can't tell them what to do they get that deer in headlights look.

Im glad you got your car back, but I would NOT be happy about the backlights staying on though. Sounds like it was a rather awful experience. Stealerships FTL. Im going to have my Immo cloned and risk it frying my spare ECU rather than go there again, my last experience was horrific.
