    Headlights, Foglights and Highbeams out..

Everything else on the car works like it's supposed to.. I followed the DIY on audiworld.com on how to take apart the switch/stalk and clean it up.

Everything looked new and unmelted but I cleaned the contacts anyway. I still have no lights.

    Fuses are good.

Is there a relay?! If so which is for the headlights?!

I'm stumped and kind of pissed off.

Do you have a multimeter, or even a test light? How about your flash to pass?

IF so, check the output of the switch on the stalk. I had an A8 do the same thing at work this week.

sounds like the headlight switch went bad all together. were the headlights randomly turning off before no lights at all?

the place that parts tons of cars on here, i cant think of their name off the top of my head, they quoted a whole 25 bucks for a new headlight switch. so cheap, its worth the fix.

Re: Headlights, Foglights and Highbeams out..

the headlights were working fine all day (was dark and rainy). They were on when i left work and I noticed they were off when i pulled into my driveway and there was no typical reflection off my garage door.

I DID however hit a rather large bump on my way home from work... I'm not sure if this bump jar'd something loose or had anything to do with the switch failing?! I've traced the entire length of headlight harnesses and they're all intact.

There's a 99 B5 that's being parted out close to home. Would the 99+ headlight switch work with my 98.5 prefacelift?!

yeah.. from all the searching and people I've talked to you're right.

can anyone confirm that a switch from a 99 a4 sedan will work on my 98.5 before i drive out to pick it off a parts car?!

I believe all the models have pretty similar wiring. There should be a larger wire (14-16AWG) that I believe is Yellow w/ a brown tracer. That should be it and you should be able to get a voltage reading at the back of the connector. You're looking for ~12V.

The one that failed on my customer's car would only let 0.1-0.3V through on headlights.

Did you fix it or replace it?

I've been having the same problem and haven't had a chance to tear into it. The independent fog mod has been getting me too and from work for a few days.
