    rebuilding the 1.8t

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I've ready to rebuild the 1.8t, it runs fine, but I've got some oil leaks (oil pan), a few lifters ticking once the motor is warm, and 160k on the stock motor. I am going to just remove the head and the oil pan.

So here is what all I've got in mind
    lifters
    rings
    rod bearings
    oil pump
    head bolts

what I am wondering is about the valves....I've seen where some poeple rebuilding the AEB replace the intake valves, I am just wondering why just the intake valves? do they wear more/ diffrent?

I doubt you need new valves. If the car burns oil, you can replace the valve seals and retainers. I seen good prices for all lifters at www.mjmautohaus.com. Might as well replace the rods in the motor while the pistons are out which will allow you to run more power if you replace that GT2X.

I honestly wouldn't tear down my own 1.8T without planning on replacing rods.

Call up Bob (QEDpower) and he'll break everything down for you, and probably give you the best price on stuff. He'll probably sell you the "Rod install kit" and some goodies you choose.

    Re: rebuilding the 1.8t

I didnt relize the stock rods were so weak... Im running 22 psi on regular gas.... I was running 26psi when I was running high test (when it wasnt $5.00 a gallon)

should I be looking for some H beams?

Scat or Integrated Engineering. $350 per set of 4. Well worth the investment if you're already in there. Stock pistons will be fine for most people's ambitions too.

You didn't list a head gasket but I'm assuming you will be replacing that too.

Also replacing the rods is not a bad idea since they are only a few hundred bucks and it will give you peace of mind.

    Re: rebuilding the 1.8t

Dont forget intake manifold gasket and exhaust manifold gasket and you should put in new rod bolts if you are going to reuse your stock rods since the bolts stretch when you torque them. Probably be a good idea to throw in new valve cover gasket too while you are at it.

And the tapping may just be your cam chain tensioner being worn out and not your lifters.

Also timing belt kit, valve cover gasket, and any other little things that shouldn't be reused.

Definitely swap in a set of Scat rods and new rod bearings while you're in there. Rings can be optional but I did them too.

Swap in the rods because most likely you'll be running a bigger turbo sometime down the road and in that case you wont have to do it again then....
