    Stock S4 Catback on 2.8 V6 = NOT GOOD!

So, I had my stock catback left over from my S4 and I noticed that the exhausts looked almost identical and wanted the sweet chrome tips from the S4 but retain a stock exhaust on my A4 2.8q. As it turns out the S4's catback is slightly larger in diameter all around. The two pipes before the Y are ~1/8th of an inch larger and after the first muffler but before the rear muffler is about 1/4 of an inch larger. The mufflers all look identical size and shape and all the hangers lined up perfect.

After all is said and done, the exhaust is on and the new tips looks soo sweet (a bit of sarcasm, but better then stock) unfortunately the exhaust is much louder and has the nastiest rasp to it at 3000ish rpms. After all that time, for nothing. I was certainly disappointed but luckily I spent no money.

Moral of the story, don't waste your time .

I'll have to take a video tomorrow. I thought the same thing, but it is without a doubt much louder. It doesn't sound bad at all up till the raspy-ness but it is def louder then a stock S4. I knew that turbo's quiet exhaust, an S4 is almost silent with the stock exhaust and this is not.

It would be louder on a n/a car.

The turbos act as silencers, a lot of heat energy is lost through them, so will always be quieter than the stock 2,8L.

I knew that but was not expecting how much louder it actually turned out.

Hmm, nice info, I would have never thought it would be louder.

I second his findings. I did this a month ago. sounds nice untill 3gs. Im adding a supercharger to increase the exhaust pressure ;)

Maybe you have a leak in the clamps. Thats where mine is. Normally you need to replace them when taking on and of the exhuast.(well should replace them)

I wish it were just that but there are no leaks at all. I just make sure to shift before it sounds like ass which will benifit me in the long run cause I will be driving more fuel efficient. LOL.
