Question all kinds of nasty abnormal sounds coming from coilovers - UPDATE

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
im running on stasis SS coils right now, 25.5" all around.. and a couple days ago, i developed this nasty screech/rubbing/grating sound coming from the front passenger side.

wierd thing is, this only happens when i'm making a sharp RIGHT turn going at moderate speeds

when i'm going STRAIGHT, i can feel very *subtle* vibrations/slight rubbing? from the front right as well

anyone know what's up? i checked to see if maybe the wheel lining was loose and rubbing against the wheels but no go.. the bolts seem to be on tight. i may take it in for an alignment and see if that helps

    kinda worrisome

    UPDATE

turns out it's a broken rear sway bar link (passenger side) - i ordered a new link kit from Audi but it'll take a few days.. anyone know how safe it is to drive around with one broken RSB link for a few days? any long-term damage?

here's the part number for the rear sway bar link / rear stabilizer connector link

Did you DIY or have it done at a Stasis dealer? I've seen two or more) threads just today all of a sudden about Stasis CO's specifically having this problem, and I can't say its too inspiring..... I've been thinking about getting them.

I think its about time to flag down a Stasis advertiser!

WERD.... iam in the process of having mine installed also. I dont like all the recent hype of the noises, and issues people are having. Hopefully you just have some adjustments of some type to make and it wont be anything major!!! good luck

if happening when turning sharply it sounds like you may just be riding too low and rubbing on the wheel well.

    good luck!

Re: all kinds of nasty abnormal sounds coming from coilovers

hey guys, thanks for the responses thus far

    a couple things

1.) i'm riding at 25.5" - it's def. not too low.. plus, the left side is perfectly fine (no sound when turning left

2.) this is NOT just slight knocking/squeaking - this is EXTREME.. almost like metal on metal. i feel unsafe driving the car.. i will be taking it in for service but just wanted to know what they should look for.

it's very loud, the whole car shudders, it emits a LOUD sqeak with a LOUD GRATING sound (almost like metal on metal) my coils were fine for the first few months.. this just started happening a couple days ago

take off your wheel and look, if it's metal on metal, you should be able to see what's up by just seeing. Check all moving parts on the right side. If you cant find anything, take it to the dealer.

Everytime I read something pretaining to Stasis coils... this pops into my head... you cannot install these with an impact gun.. from what I gather these are one of the few if only coilovers that shouldn't be installed with one... and it seems 75% do or try to.

There is a specific installation method yes....really same way with other coilovers (load the susp and tighten the fasteners).

Odd that the noise is coming from the RF and happens on a right hand turn. I was thinking maybe a wheel bearing but you'd most likely need to be turning left to load up the RF bearing and hear it scream.

    Eh?

Re: all kinds of nasty abnormal sounds coming from coilovers - UPDATE

It's good to know that you've figured out where the problem is. Upgrade your sways while you are at it. If you are on a budget, go with B7 RS4 RSB. If not, H-sports.

Since our cars are designed to run with sways, I wouldn't drive the car until it's fixed.
