Any Post on how to replace rear shocks?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Purchased a set of Bilstein Sports for the rear and was wondering how hard it is to install? Or should I have the local shop toss them in?

BTW- did a search, no results!

Pretty simple job if your somewhat mechanically inclined.. if you have access to a lift it will make it a lot easier.

That is for coilovers but will still be the same process for the rear shock removal and installation.

Re: Any Post on how to replace rear shocks?

FYI I tried to install the coilovers on the back of my car and I couldn't get the rear subframe bolts out. I didn't have power tools. Getting the shocks out was a walk in the park. But getting the springs out was useless with out dropping the subframe.

sorry for bringing back a dead post but
im halfway though this right now and i got all 3 bolts out (2 up top) 1 big one on the bottom, but i cant seem to get the bottom of the strut out, im not changing the springs just the struts, i got the bottom bolt out but now when i try and remove the strut its just moves on the bushing, its really weird, i don't have an impact hammer how should i go about getting this out?
should i just keep reefing on it?
I didn't drop the sub-frame or anything because it didn't seem necessary

    EDIT
reefed it right out, apologies for cluttering the forums.

Are you talking about the coupling where the bottom of the strut sits? If so, you will have to spread it in order to release the strut. You could also try a little penetrating spray to help loosen it up as well.

If i install shock and springs (Koni+Eibach), do i have to cut or change the bump stop?

I would change them because if you were to compare those against new ones you'll see the difference. The old ones will be compressed. Doesn't mean they're shot, I would just change them to get the best feel out of the new suspension.

^Should the new shock came with new ones?
I ask that because i saw in a diy that the guy was cutting two inch of the old bump stop to fit new shorter springs (but was keeping original shocks).

What are the torque specs? The write up says to tighten/torque under load. I assume that means to jack up the wheel before I tighten?
