Can someone give me some real info on converting an automatic into a standard? Like pricing, how, where, etc..

i want to trade it for a 06 s4 but my dad got me the car and wants me to keep it.. i can put my own money into it and i think a tranny swap is worth it since i have no other choice

I agree just because you have an auto doesnt mean you dont know how to drive or know anything about cars... there plently of mods to make it fast, and it isn't that much of a diff that you would want to drop the money to convert it when you could pull on other cars with a new chip,dv,FMIC,exhaust, dont be down on your auto there plently of auto a4's on here that are modded.

i have a semi-heavily modded tip. i hate driving the tip everyday but i have to deal with it. if there were a cheap way to swap trannies like JDM cars can, i'd be driving a manual right now.

Put your money into some worthy mods. Once you figure out the sweet spots on the Tip the difference is minimal.

Trust me I've had both.

hahaha leg cramps like no other...or when you do legs at the gym i drive so slow because I dont think Ill be able to stop b/c my legs are shaking from lifting...

I have a friend with a stage 3+ b5 s4, he has spent so much. The 1 thing that bothers him.....auto/tiptronic. That doesnt mean he doesnt still rape people in races, because he sure as hell does. Forget the tranny swap its too much labor and too much money and a PITA for everyone. Either 1, stick with the auto and use the money to upgrade, or sell/trade in your car for a manual.

you can make a tip fast and launch it 10x harder than a manual. I have quattro and dont hook in 1st gear. 19lbs of boost on launch ftmfw.

I know we 6MT guys rag on you TIP owners a lot, but seriously listen to the advice in this thread. Buy some mods to make it go faster and it will reduce the pain of not having a manual. It SERIOUSLY isn't worth the money. If you're stuck with the TIP, make the best of it. They're all right, it isn't THAT bad.

you can find plenty of trannies in san fran. j/k... you'll save so much more finding a manual of the same style as yours... plus dealerships look forward to receiving an auto over a manual.

and to the OP, if you're still reading my post, i'm pretty sure autos and manuals have a different crankshaft. there's a guy on here who had a thread a few months back about an A4 he bought used that apparently had its engine swapped. looking up the serial # on the engine, it was originally mated to a manual tranny (and his car had an auto) in a car that got totalled. he was having all kinds of problems, and the general consensus was that the crank shafts had slightly different connections to the flywheel/clutch/torque convertor/etc.

look, don't be all clutch-pedal-elitist and dis your car just because it's an auto. own it, respect its good qualities, and nobody (except douchey clutch-pedal-elitists) will have a problem.

That was with 0 timing ( Now its more, Not telling though ) and a bad flash, that dead spot is no longer there, Im making a video pretty soon so people can see for themselves.

TIP is prob better for a big turbo application than the manual. even though the manual is more fun, the tip is deff the faster option when power gets really high on a turbo'd car

I think this would be the case for a 500+ whp car... but i cannot see this being possible with our cars... only time will tell. Plus you can't compare a Supra to our cars. Bigger engine... bigger turbo... can easily get 600 and upto 1000 whp.
